JOB SUMMARY:



The position of Children & Youth Agency Caseworker provides service to children and their families to help them attain a more satisfactory, social, economic, emotional or physical adjustment.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:



Has good knowledge of modern social service practices, casework philosophy and investigations, methods and practices. Works with children and adults under trying circumstances. Desire to work successfully with people. Make independent decisions, ability to plan and organize work, understand and interpret laws and regulations.

JOB FUNCTIONS:



Obtaining essential information from children, members of their families and others, necessary for the identification of social, economic, emotional, health or physical problems and assessing risk. Determination of eligibility for a wide variety of services on the basis of established regulations, policies and procedures.

Provides casework and counseling services to children and members of their families to aid them in achieving a more satisfactory adjustment to their specific problems or situations.

Provides casework and counseling to create permanency planning for children removed from the custody of their parents.

Investigates child abuse complaints and provides protective and supportive services for abused or neglected children and counsel families concerning proper methods of care.

Works in close cooperation with other social agencies, hospitals, clinics, courts, schools and community resources in planning to meet the needs of the child and assists the child in utilizing these resources.

Daily work on computers to prepare social studies and case histories, write letters, make reports, and keep records.

Responsible for maintaining contact and visiting children placed in settings outside the County.

Participating in staff training and development sessions and in-service training.

Transportation of children and families when other transportation is not available.

Will have on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis after 5:00 p.m. and on weekends.

Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:



Must have the ability to record, convey, and present information, explain procedures, and follow instructions;

Must be able to sit for long periods of time with frequent periods of standing, walking, and occasional twisting, reaching, pulling, and pushing required for obtaining files, doing inspections or other job duties;

Dexterity requirements range from simple to complex movements of fingers/hands, legs/feet, or torso to carry out job duties;

Sedentary work with occasional lifting, 15-20 pounds;

Must demonstrate emotional stability;

Ability to cope with physical and mental stress of the position;

Must be able to pay close attention to detail and concentrate on work.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:



Good knowledge of modern social services practices, casework philosophy and investigations, ability to deal with children and adults, Good communication and interviewing skills, possession of a Bachelor's degree in Social Services, Sociology, Psychology, or related field.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE and TRAINING:



A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.

ADDITIONAL TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:



Must possess current ChildLine, FBI and Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Clearances. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be able to work flexible hours.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.57 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
