General Accountabilities
The crematory operator reports to the crematory manager. The crematory operator position is often physically demanding with many duties being related to the handling of the deceased, operating heavy machinery, and working in a high temperature environment. You should possess essential traits that contribute to the compassionate and professional atmosphere we cultivate. Reliability and punctuality are necessary to the time sensitive nature of the industry. A foundation of integrity and compassion is crucial, as this individual will be entrusted with supporting grieving families during a challenging time. Maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor, the successful candidate will exhibit a service-oriented approach to their duties, prioritizing the dignity of the deceased and the comfort of grieving families. The ability to remain calm under pressure, a high degree of discretion, and precise attention to detail are vital to uphold the quality of care and service we strive to deliver to every family.
Specific Responsibilities:
Pick up and handle human or pet remains in a respectful manner.
Maintain a consistent chain of custody throughout the cremation process using barcodes and checking identification tags.
Place human and animal deceased into cremation retorts and follow proper procedures for a safe and dignified cremation.
Monitor and adjust the cremation process to ensure proper standard operating procedures are followed and implemented.
Processing cremated remains using specialized equipment.
Creating memorialization items with urn engraver and clay keepsakes with proper training.
Maintain the schedule of cremations to ensure prompt delivery of cremated remains to client funeral homes.
Cleaning will occur on a regular schedule and additionally as needed.
Maintaining personal appearance per company dress code.
Perform all job duties in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
Follow all applicable safety protocols when executing job duties.
Drive vehicles to transport individuals or equipment between client funeral homes.
Monitoring cremation equipment and building equipment for deficiencies and necessary maintenance.
Other tasks as needed.

Experience & Educational Requirements:
High school graduate or GED
Accredited cremation course from state approved course provider
Registered crematory operator license preferred but not required
Valid drivers license with an insurable record
Working Conditions
Physical
The job is frequently expected to lift, carry, push, or pull objects and deceased exceeding 50lbs. A mechanical lift is on premises and teamwork to handle heavy loads is expected.
Physical work pace and/or exertion bring on a moderate amount of physical fatigue.
The interior of the crematory is persistently very warm, especially in the summer.
Mental/Sensory
On a daily basis, the work involves short to intermediate periods of non-interrupted mental/sensory attention.
The job requires working alternating weekend shifts and holidays.
The need to work overtime or to be called in before schedule hours of work often cannot be anticipated.
The job has minimal to no control over workflow or service demands.
There is continual exposure to interruptions.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $23.00 - $26.00 per hour
