Courtesy Boat Inspector The 30 Mile River Watershed Association (30 Mile) is seeking Courtesy Boat Inspectors (CBIs) for the 2023 summer season. CBIs are the \xe2\x80\x9cfirst line of defense\xe2\x80\x9d against harmful invasive aquatic plants and animals that hitch rides on boats and trailers, spreading from lake to lake. CBIs work at public boat launches checking incoming and outgoing boats and educating the public about invasive species. CBIs serve a vital role in protecting our lakes from the devastating impacts of invasives, while spending time at beautiful lakeside locations. Responsibilities:
  • Conduct courtesy boat inspections at launches across the watershed including Androscoggin Lake, Parker Pond, Flying Pond and Minnehonk Lake.
  • Search for invasive plant fragments located on boats, trailers and gear.
  • Educate boaters about the importance of preventing invasive species from entering our watershed.
  • Record data for every inspection performed.
Qualifications:
  • Excellent communication skills with the general public.
  • Attention to detail in record-keeping and conducting inspections.
  • Interest in protecting lake health.
  • Ability to work independently with reliability in keeping scheduled shifts.
  • Ability to stand and bend to check underneath boats and trailers.
  • Access to reliable transportation.

The program runs from May 25th through mid-September (end date flexible for students). Pay starts at $14/hr. The position is ideally suited for retirees, students, and others looking for part-time work; may be combined with the Youth Conservation Corps or Invasive Plant Surveyor positions.
