This position will be located at our Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex, in Shawnee County.

Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary: Provide Effective Case Management to the offender population of KJCC by using interventions proven through Evidence Based Practices. Serve as a member of the Unit Team and develop Behavior Management tools that are focused on areas of risk by involving other departments, families, supports and supervision officers. Engage support systems and utilize to build, teach and guide our population to become productive citizens that follow the mission and vision of KJCC and the State of Kansas.


Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides direct case management services to juvenile residents, individually and in groups
  • Using a team approach to risk management this position will evaluate resident risk factors in order to make decisions regarding housing or work assignments as well as appropriate referrals to programs and services
  • Coordinates with supervisors and program/treatment providers as appropriate to facilitate the resident\'s entry into needed programming and treatment
  • Maintains regular contact with a resident\xe2\x80\x99s family regarding progresses and barriers for each juvenile in assigned caseload
  • Intervenes in crisis situations with the juvenile and assists in utilizing problem solving techniques to minimize such situations
  • Responsible for administering and collecting assessments and progress reports from the various team members, compiling and writing a comprehensive review of the progress of the juvenile in treatment, within appropriate timeframes.
  • Liaison with Community Agencies
  • Effective and timely communication should be maintained with the courts, community corrections and other entities to ensure information is shared regarding the juvenile\xe2\x80\x99s program progress, barriers, and case information throughout the juvenile\xe2\x80\x99s facility placement.
  • Participates in the decision-making process regarding juveniles and demonstrates the ability to make decisions and recommendations that reflect an ethical judgment that are in accordance with institutional policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with major coursework in criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences.
  • One year of experience working with adult/juveniles in corrections, parole, or law enforcement. Additional experience may be substituted for the required education as determined relevant by the agency.
Approved Substitutions:
  • Completion of 60 semester hours of coursework from an accredited college or university, including 12 hours in corrections, criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences, and two (2) years of experience in the field of adult/juvenile corrections or case management in social services; or
  • Completion of 30 semester hours of coursework from an accredited college or university, including six (6) hours in corrections, criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences, and three (3) years of experience in the field of adult/juvenile corrections or case management in social services; or
  • High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of experience in the field of adult/juvenile corrections; or case management in social services.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with adolescents and/or juveniles
  • Case management experience
  • Independent work experience in corrections counseling and corrections case management
  • Knowledge of modern concepts and principles related to offender risk management (Evidence-Based Principles and Core Correctional Practices)
  • Certification/knowledge in Thinking for a Change (T4C), Aggression Replacement Training (ART), and/or additional evidence-based programming
  • Certified to administer Youth Level of Service (YLS) assessment and/or thorough understanding of similar risk/needs assessments
  • Knowledge of KDOC policy/procedure, as well as institutional rules and regulations
  • Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:

  • Valid drivers license

  • Free of felony convictions or adjudication, whether or not expunged,

  • Free of any felony or misdemeanor domestic violence crime

  • Free of conviction or adjudication by a court of law or court-martial, of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year (whether or not the sentence was imposed).

  • Free of conviction as an adult of Driving Under the Influence (or comparable law regarding driving while intoxicated or under the influence of a controlled substance) in the past 24 months.

  • Free of conviction or adjudication of a misdemeanor involving drug use or possession in the past 60 months

  • Free of any criminal charges, indictments or outstanding warrants pending.

  • Candidate must take and pass a drug screening test approved by Office of Personnel Services unless the incumbent is moving from one safety-sensitive position to another safety-sensitive position within the same agency performing substantially similar duties.
