STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS INSTRUCTIONS:

Read the instructions carefully as you will be rated on your ability to follow instructions in addition to how well your experience and knowledge meet the desirable qualifications of the position. Answer all questions clearly and concisely, with proper grammar, as these factors are considered in the evaluation process.

1. You are the Correctional Sergeant on duty when an inmate inside a single cell becomes non-responsive to verbal communication and appears to be intentionally barricading the cell door. The inmate refuses to comply with direct orders, and attempts at de-escalation have been unsuccessful. Based on your assessment, a controlled use-of-force cell extraction may be necessary. Describe the steps you would take to conduct a cell extraction that is in compliance with policy and ensure the safety of those involved.


2. Describe how your experience, duties, and accomplishments as a Correctional Officer with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation have prepared you for the role of Correctional Sergeant. In your response, provide specific examples that demonstrate your leadership, decision-making, communication (verbally and written), and ability to maintain the safety and security of an institution. Explain how these experiences have equipped you with the skills and judgement required to effectively supervise staff, manage daily operations, and uphold departmental policies and procedures.
