Founded in 1968 to meet the post-secondary and continuing education needs of Cecil County residents, Cecil College has been serving the community and shaping its future for more than 50 years. The College is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor. The College\xe2\x80\x99s fifth president, Dr. Mary Way Bolt, reports directly to the Board of Trustees.

Cecil College is centrally located in Maryland\xe2\x80\x99s most northeastern county, just one half mile from Interstate 95. It is easily accessible from Philadelphia and Baltimore, as well as from Wilmington, Delaware.

With a diverse student population, Cecil College enrolls approximately 2,500 credit students and 3,400 non-credit students. Cecil offers associate degrees, certificate programs and non-credit classes. Cecil offers a variety of associate degree and certificate programs.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Coordinator of Student Leadership and Inclusion is to engage students through leadership and civic engagement activities outside of the classroom; offer co-curricular enrichment and leadership programs in various formats for diverse populations; and to offer social, educational and cultural programs which enhance students\xe2\x80\x99 sense of community on campus. The Coordinator will have responsibility to develop, manage, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive program to maximize the support and success of under-represented students attending Cecil College. The Coordinator collaborates with all Student Services units to recruit, advise, support, graduate and transfer underrepresented students.

The Coordinator of Student Leadership and Inclusion accomplishes the general responsibilities by scheduling and coordinating leadership and civic engagement programs in different modalities; advising student leaders and providing opportunities to foster new skills and confidences in a diverse group of college students. Other duties include serving as alternative contact for MCCADA affinity group; advising student groups, representing Student Life at campus-wide programs and events.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Support for Student Success

1. Establish annual goals that provide student support, academic enrichment, and community service while ensuring consistency with institutional priorities and other departments.

2. Provide guidance and support for students to facilitate completion, academic progress and achievement of personal goals.

3. Participate as an active member of the Student Success Committee to create supportive structures for student success, to develop retention tools and strategies; make recommendations for new processes and provide support to faculty in their retention efforts.

4. In collaboration with faculty and staff, facilitate the delivery of academic success programming (time management, organizational skills, note-taking, test-taking, academic management and planning). Seminars can be delivered in-person and/or online.

5. Work with student services departments and programs to provide options, referrals and alternative solutions for students who currently are facing obstacles and challenges; collaborate with internal and external resources to provide wrap-around services for students.

6. Assist students with scholarship applications, petitions, waivers, referrals.

7. Work with data analyst to conduct research and evaluate processes for improving retention and persistence rates for student success and report findings.

8. Oversee the Peer-to-Peer Mentorship Program.

9. Oversight of Seahawk Success Conversations workshops.

10. Establish goals and efforts to develop and identify first generation students on campus.

11. Co-Chair, First Generation Committee.

12. Resolve complex student challenges by providing innovative solutions.

Co-Curricular Enrichment

1. Actively pursue community support for under-represented students in order to strengthen recruitment and retention efforts. Develop relationships with external partners.

2. Directly serve as advisor to (MSU) Multicultural Student Union and CIAO (Cecil International Affinity Organization) student groups. Recruit and train student officers and collaborate with other College clubs.

3. Develop, monitor, and update college website related to Cecil clubs, activities and organizations.

4. Assist Coordinator of Student Engagement with semester with training of student club leaders, faculty club advisors and semester club fair.

5. Coordinate the planning and presentation of heritage month celebrations and other programs to expose students to different cultures and perspectives. Collaborate with students, faculty and staff in planning and presentation of programming.

6. Collaborate with the Director of Student Life and Coordinator of Student Engagement to assist in the promotion of student life events-- New Student Orientation, End of Semester DeStressor Events and Welcome Week.

7. Coordinate annual Safe Zones training for faculty, staff and students.

8. Coordinate every other year LEAD ALLY Certificate Program.

9. Promote student leadership, diversity awareness and exposure for on and off campus projects, workshops and events for personal and professional development.

10. Serve as a resource for faculty and staff seeking teaching materials and other resources about underrepresented groups and/or cultural diversity.

11. Develop and assess student learning outcomes related to Student Leadership and Inclusion workshops and programs.

12. Coordinate Fall and Spring under-represented students opening (welcome) and closing (farewell) receptions.

13. Manage Campus Food Pantry initiatives.

Administrative

1. Communicate with currently enrolled under-represented students through monthly emails, newsletters, surveys, event calendars, registration alerts, promotion of new courses and degrees, and general campus updates via text, email and direct mail.

2. Write and coordinate implementation of the annual Cultural Diversity Plan as required by the Maryland Higher Education Commission.

3. Serve as MyCecil content manager with responsibility for creation and maintenance of a Diversity and Inclusion Student Services page on the Cecil Life tab.

4. Maintain Cecil College Clubs, MSU (Multicultural Student Union) and CIAO (Cecil International Affinity Organization) student club pages and calendars in the college website and student portal ensuring continuous additions and deletions that are date sensitive.

5. Create a leadership certificate and/or academy program.

6. Create, assess, and facilitate leadership and civic engagement programs for students, including coordinating event logistics.

7. Work with Information Technology and Marketing Department to develop content for social media tools to build and maintain relationships with students.

8. Serve as a member on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) committee at Cecil College.

9. Serve as Title IX Student Advisor.

OTHER RELATED DUTIES

1. Attend related statewide meetings as appropriate.

2. Participate in College committees as necessary.

3. Handles other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Education:
Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree required, preferably with coursework in student development and/or human relations.
  • Experience:
Experience in higher education student services is required. Must be able to demonstrate excellent organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Skills/Training: Professional experiences should reflect an understanding of the value and impact of student engagement. \xe2\x80\xa2 Proficiencies: Must demonstrate creativity and energy in their approach to the workplace. Evidence of strong verbal and written communication skills must be apparent.
  • Physical Demands: Periodic transport and set-up of materials for student events.
  • Scheduling Requirements: Varied work schedule during critical periods sometimes requiring evening, Saturday, and Sunday work hours, dependent upon departmental needs. Due to the need of interaction with students, employees, and the college community this position requires in-person presence. This position is eligible for telework.
