Title I Homeless Tutor/Mentor (During School Hours): Elementary

$175/day



This position will be working with students who are homeless or living in temporary living arrangements. The tutor/mentor will serve elementary school students. The tutor will work an average of 12-15 days each month depending on need. Each day paid will consist of an 8-hour work day with one hour set aside for lunch/planning. The successful candidate will serve students who are referred by the county homeless facilitators to assist with school work, set goals, and work together with students to meet the set goals. The tutor will report to and work cooperatively with staff at each school, KCS homeless facilitators, and the Title I Director.



+ The tutor will consult with a KCS Learning Specialist regarding educational needs and strategies to be most effective.
+ The tutor will meet with the KCS homeless facilitators at least monthly to review the tutoring program's progress.
+ The tutor will follow the Kanawha County Schools procedures for school visits by signing in and out of the building before and after each visit.
+ The tutor needs to be open and comfortable to work closely with diverse children that may have endured hardship and to be willing to gain their trust and build relationships.
+ Bachelor's degree in related field required.
+ It is preferable that the applicant has teaching experience.
