Position Overview:





We are seeking a

highly organized, detail-oriented Construction Bookkeeper

with at least

five years of hands-on experience

in construction accounting. This role is essential to the day-to-day financial operations of our construction division. You will be responsible for overseeing all bookkeeping functions for multiple active construction projects, supporting the accounting department, and ensuring financial compliance and reporting accuracy across project lifecycles.



The ideal candidate is self-driven, able to multitask across several jobs simultaneously, and confident managing vendor relations, budgets, and job costing without constant oversight.


Core Responsibilities:




Project Accounting & Cost Management:




Set up and manage job cost ledgers for new projects Code, enter, and reconcile invoices to appropriate jobs and cost codes Prepare monthly job cost reports and work-in-progress (WIP) schedules Monitor actual costs vs. budgets and notify the project team of variances

Accounts Payable & Receivable:




Process vendor invoices and payments, ensuring proper approvals and compliance Manage subcontractor compliance documentation including W-9s, lien waivers, and insurance certificates Track and follow up on receivables from clients and draw requests from lenders

Draw Requests & Billing:




Prepare and submit AIA billing forms and monthly draw packages to lenders or project owners Coordinate with project managers for billing support documentation Track retainage and prepare closeout billing

Reconciliation & Reporting:




Reconcile bank accounts, credit card transactions, and vendor statements monthly Generate monthly financial statements and assist in year-end close and CPA audits Maintain organized and audit-ready digital records

Payroll & Compliance:




Process certified payroll when applicable and maintain labor cost tracking by job Ensure compliance with prevailing wage rules and local/state/federal requirements File annual 1099s and assist with sales tax filings and reporting deadlines

Required Qualifications:




5+ years of construction bookkeeping or construction accounting experience

Strong understanding of

job costing

,

percentage-of-completion accounting

, and

AIA billing

Advanced proficiency in

QuickBooks

(Online or Desktop),

Excel

, and familiarity with construction software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Procore, Buildertrend, or similar) Experience managing multiple projects concurrently and working with developers, GCs, and subcontractors Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:




Experience in a real estate development or general contracting environment Knowledge of construction compliance documentation including insurance, W-9s, lien waivers, and certified payroll Working familiarity with draw request formats for major lenders or HUD-financed projects Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Construction Management (not required but preferred)

Compensation & Benefits:




Base Salary:
