Concrete Finisher

  • Department: Civil
  • Supervisor: Project Superintendent
  • Compensation: Prevailing Wage Non-Exempt
  • Location: Kodiak Island, Alaska
Housing on Kodiak Island and Per-diem will be provided. Employees to provide their own vehicle transportation to and from the jobsite daily. We will pay for ferry transportation on and off the island for their POV s at the start and end of employment.

POSITION SUMMARY

The primary purpose of this position is to smooth and finish concrete surfaces to complete construction projects. They may work on concrete floors, sidewalks, roads or curbs. Concrete finishers make sure the concrete used on job sites is the desired pith, required form and depth. They may work alongside and collaborate with other skilled tradespeople to complete their work, including engineers.

The employee should have the ability to work different shifts and long hours (8-12 hours), when necessary. Weekend work and extra hours occur according to production needs and at the Crew Supervisor s discretion.

  • Applicant must have at least 1 year experience in Concrete Finishing of Garage Slabs, Building Slabs and Patios/Sidewalks
  • Applicant must have own personal hand tools required for finishing, Mag Floats, Steel Trowels, edgers, and sliders
  • Concrete Forming background preferred but not required
Position Requirements
  • Ability to obtain a base pass for working onsite
  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred. In addition, the employee must:
  • Be able to work in constant change in weather and site conditions, including rain
  • Be able to lift, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, couch, crawl and reach to perform everyday job tasks

Physical/Mental Requirements

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The employee must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This may include hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

The employee must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.
