Position Description Summary



Under general supervision of the Customer Support Supervisor, this position installs, modifies, tests and repairs computer hardware and software.

Duties



Installs, modifies and repairs computer hardware and software; Serves as first point of contact for user inquiries concerning system operation and diagnosis of technical problems; Recommends or performs remedial actions to correct problems; Installs hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers, scanners, and disk drives; Loads software packages such as operating systems (OS), OS updates, patches, office automation products and enterprise approved application software onto computer systems; Assists in troubleshooting security events; observes system functions to verify correct system operation; Provides updates, status and completion information; Assists in evaluating and developing strategic directions for the enterprise relating to information technology; Assists in the development of internal and external systems security measures and monitors compliance; Develops and implements production recovery, disaster recovery and related security procedures; Develops, tests and updates support documentation; Performs other duties as assigned.

City and County regulations; Information Technology and Services Department policies and procedures; Personal computers, operating systems, O365 and software (including Windows, Active Directory, and Office 365) Computer hardware operation and interaction; Hardware and software troubleshooting procedures; Application deployment systems; Systems management including operating system interfaces, systems security and performance monitoring; Patch management, antivirus, and antispyware standards and best practices; IT security protocols and practices; Records management and reporting requirements.

Examples of Skills & Abilities



Ability to operate computer systems and related software, including O365 applications such as word, excel, TEAMS, Zoom, use test equipment; Diagnose and recommend repairs for various computer problems according to department standards; Monitor development of new hardware and software technology; Communicates effectively orally and in writing; Establishes effective working relationships with customers, fellow employees, and management.

Qualifications



The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position are acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to certification as a Computer Assistant plus two (2) years of computer support experience OR an Associate's Degree in Information Technology and one (1) year of computer support experience OR a 4 year degree in computer science, management information systems or related degree. A+ certification is preferred.

Physical Demands



Duties are generally performed in an office environment where hazards and discomforts are controlled and modifiable. This position requires the ability to stand, bend at the waist, kneel, reach over the head, talk, hear, and see. Must be able to move or lift materials weighing up to 30 pounds. Position requires knowledge and use of typical office equipment including telephone, and personal computer. Position is required to manage and resolve a variety of customer issues through multiple communications channels. Position may require occasional travel to other sites.

Special Requirements



Must be able to pass a criminal background check. May be required to be on call occasionally.
