This position develops and provides computer training to staff and the public through a network of community centers, assists with management of online content, and serves as lead trainer/facilitator for the department's cloud-based recreation management software as well as the coordination of marketing activities designed to increase public awareness and participation in department and city-wide programs.

Essential Job Functions

Prepares and provides beginner-to-intermediate computer training for employees and customers in a variety of topics, including but not limited to basic computer use, computer safety, office software applications (e.g. word processing, typing, email/calendar software), online and other applications as appropriate. Operates a variety of equipment such as computers, printers, copiers, projectors, etc. Maintains inventory of the department's special event equipment. Creates and manages department database files and manages customer-based recreation software applications. Serves as lead contact for computer applications managed through outside vendors; maintains proficiency in use of vendor software, serving as program administrator and training other department personnel. Assists Marketing Coordinator with producing general marketing pieces, including seasonal activity guides, quarterly newsletters, monthly e-newsletters, television programs, and the Web site content. Assists marketing coordinator with marketing department activities produced by the department via broadcast, print, internet, direct marketing, and outreach. Organizes and maintains photo and video files for department. Creates and maintains department survey systems and analysis Performs other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications, Computer Technology or related area; and supplemented by two (2) years of experience working with and providing instruction in computer applications, registration software and/or web based application; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.



Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.

Minimum Standards:



SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Director assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.



GUIDELINES: Guidelines include department rules and regulations. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.



COMPLEXITY: The work consists of varied duties related to providing support for computer centers, managing department data systems, troubleshooting computer-related problems, and providing software training for employees and the public. Time and budget constraints contribute to the complexity of the position.



SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to provide support for centers, employees and the public. Successful performance helps ensure the efficient utilization of computer services. The purpose of this position is to coordinate marketing campaigns to promote department programming. Successful performance helps ensure citizen, visitor, and organizational awareness of the city's programs.



PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city employees, computer software vendors, and the general public.



PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information and provide services.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects and distinguishes between shades of color.



WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office, library, computer room, or at community centers. The work can be done during typical office hours but there will be instances where the work will be done at events or activities after hours.
