GENERAL PURPOSE: ROC the Future Alliance (RTFA) is a collaborative, community-wide initiative dedicated to ensuring that all children receive the opportunities and support they need\xe2\x80\x94from birth to career\xe2\x80\x94to succeed in school and throughout life. ROC the Future Alliance is part of the nationally recognized framework, StriveTogether, dedicated to building strong civic infrastructure that supports improvement in student outcomes through collective impact. The Communications Manager works closely with the Operations Director to manage communications across the network and broader community; is responsible for Supervision of a Communications Specials, and the development of a Communications Strategy for the RTFA, which will be tweaked annually or as needed. The Communications Manager is responsible for ensuring the RTFA brand and organizational message is clear, concise, consistent, and promoted across the Alliance. This role manages all public relations, media and social media opportunities as required, including the engagement of the Communications Specialist as directed. Additionally, this role encompasses the approval of the engagement of third-party resources, in the production of infographics, photography, videography, media training, oversight of the Alliance website and event coordination. The Communication Manager is responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of our signature annual State of Our Children\xe2\x80\x99s event. Other functions include administrative support such as maintaining a contact database, organizing meetings and events, and assisting with funding proposals and reports.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develops and maintains a Communications Strategy for the RTFA, ensuring the brand and Alliance mission and vision are prominent with all stakeholders (leadership, teams, parents and family members), as well as across the community, and the various media and social media outlets.
  • Promotes a positive image of ROC the Future Alliance for the purpose of creating cooperative working relationships.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to develop and meet internal and external communication goals.
  • Direct supervision of Communication Specialist.
  • Oversight of communication with various stakeholders for the purpose of informing and/or presenting information through various mediums (e.g. website, e-blasts, social media, blogs, video, presentations, manuals, etc.) in compliance with RTFA mission, vision and goals; includes analytics and reporting.
  • Provides administrative oversight of all communications processes, including development and management of Communications Budget; establishing communications protocols and norms; establishing consultant agreements for purchased services (photography, videography, etc.) with consultants;
  • Ensures that all work is delivered on-time, within scope, and within budget; provide regular reports and analytics on progress against goals and indicators.
  • Supports, daily, the management of the ROC the Future Alliance website and social media channels with updates to keep it fresh, appealing and relevant with all educational news.
  • Coordinates media and public relations.
  • Responds to inquiries from various internal and external parties to provide information.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Provides guidance and support in the designs electronic and printed collateral (flyers, brochures, newsletters, presentations, etc.) for the purpose of communicating and promoting a positive image.
  • Develops and delivers media training to RTFA stakeholders (Conveners, Outcome Teams, Parent/Family Leaders, etc.) as needed/requested.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in communications, journalism or related areas required
  • 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 relevant experience, as well as communication/campaign planning in complex, dynamic work environment required.
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • This position requires exceptional communications, interpersonal, database management and computer skills. Flexibility, initiative, and excellent follow-through are essential.
    • Self-starter, high level of initiative, independent.
    • Must possess website and social media management skills
    • Energy, enthusiasm, and passion for children\xe2\x80\x99s education and related issues.
    • Familiarity with the StriveTogether network, and the cradle to career framework.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Detail-oriented and diligent in follow through.
    • Team player, well-organized, and collaborative.
    • Must possess a working knowledge of the Rochester community, including but not limited to a general understanding of the various neighborhoods, schools and community-based organizations, and the assets and resources available to support them.
    • Ability to sift through and simplify complex information, in order to communicate it to a general audience.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in writing and editing content based on target audience
    • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills
    • Experienced with Content Management Systems
