Role Overview



The

Commissioning Manager

leads the

end-to-end commissioning process

for large, complex facilities across

Southern California

. This role ensures that all

MEP, control, and life-safety systems

are fully tested, optimized, and validated for

functionality, efficiency, and compliance

.

Serving as both

technical expert and client liaison

, the Commissioning Manager oversees

multidisciplinary teams

through all phases of commissioning--pre-functional, functional, and performance testing--while maintaining alignment with

ASHRAE, BCxP, and CxA standards

.

Core Responsibilities



Lead and execute commissioning (Cx) plans across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, and envelope systems. Develop and manage Owner's Project Requirements (OPR), Basis of Design (BOD) validation, pre-functional checklists, and functional performance tests. Verify that building systems meet design intent, contract specifications, and energy performance goals. Oversee Cx schedules, budgets, and resource plans, coordinating closely with design, construction, and client teams. Direct field inspections, test witnessing, trending, and issue resolution during construction and post-occupancy phases. Produce comprehensive commissioning documentation--Cx logs, issue tracking, progress reports, and final close-out reports. Support LEED Enhanced Commissioning and energy efficiency/optimization initiatives. Lead and mentor commissioning engineers and technicians within the Facility Solutions group. Facilitate client meetings and deliver owner-facing presentations, updates, and training sessions.

Required Background



Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and technical experience. Minimum 6 years of direct commissioning (Cx) experience on commercial, institutional, or infrastructure projects. ASHRAE BCxP certification (Building Commissioning Professional) or equivalent required. CxA certification (Building Commissioning Authority) required or in progress. Demonstrated proficiency with ASHRAE commissioning procedures, documentation, and standards. Strong working knowledge of HVAC mechanical systems, BAS/controls, plumbing, fire/life safety, lighting, and security systems. Proven project management ability--scheduling, budgeting, subcontractor and client coordination. Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience managing technical teams. Excellent written, verbal, and client-facing communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Excel, Project, SharePoint, Teams, Word). Valid driver's license and ability to travel between project sites.
