Job Summary:

The Collection Development Librarian is responsible for building a relevant, high-interest collection of appropriate materials and online resources to serve the needs of the community spanning all formats, platforms, and levels.


Essential Job Duties:



Uses vendor services and professional tools to evaluate and select materials and resources in various physical and digital formats and across age groups. Responds to collection requests from customers and staff. Assures that items are ordered promptly and in quantities that meet demand. Identifies and manages materials appropriate for standing orders. Tracks expenditures and manages assigned budgets. Participates in determining annual budget allocations. Works with library staff to analyze existing collections, community trends, and library data to improve collection performance. Monitors library and publishing trends, best practices in collection management, and developments in the profession. Explores new collection development tools and vendor services that will improve or streamline processes. Assists in developing and collaborating on Collection Services projects, including maintenance of the library collections and shelf-reading. Creates collection reports to support library staff collection management and ensure essential materials are replaced or updated as needed. Acts as an advisor on library-wide collection management issues. Assists with electronic resource management, including evaluating use and maintaining relationships with vendors. Assists with mending as needed. Assists in maintaining department equipment and supplies. Complies with Anderson Public Library's policies, procedures, rules, guidelines, requirements, standards, principles, and practices applicable to the job, including [but not limited to] work scheduling and attendance, customer service, use of Library property and equipment, personal and professional conduct, and confidentiality. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Job Education and Experience:



Education: Master's Degree in Library Information and Science is required. Certifications or licensure: LC3 or higher Years of relevant experience: 2 to 5 years is preferred. Years of experience supervising: None. A valid driver's license, automobile insurance, and reliable personal transportation is required.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



Knowledge of the principles and practices of library science. Knowledge of customer interest levels related to library materials, programs, and services. Knowledge of best practices in collection development that foster relevant, balanced, diverse, and inclusive collections, proper budgetary management, and related topics. Skill in customer service. Skill in interpreting data from many sources to analyze collection needs.

Work Environment:




Typically performs work sitting in an office that requires frequent walking, light lifting, carrying, bending, grasping, pushing, and other limited physical activities. Requires frequent sustained physical operation of computer, office, and printing equipment, with frequent in-person and phone contacts with customers and library staff.

Equipment used includes computers, email/calendar software, internet/intranet browsers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, and various other software, hardware, and job-specific technology and equipment.
