This position works closely with a nurse practitioner trained in family practice and behavioral health and includes a combination of behavioral healthcare as well as urgent care and acute care. This position works in the Manchester, Edgewood, and Strawberry Point locations. Weekend rotation in Manchester Urgent Care is roughly once every 24 weekends.
Monday: Behavioral Health (Strawberry Point) 0730-1700
Tuesday: Acute Care (Edgewood) 0730-1130/ Urgent Care (Manchester) 1200-1700
Wednesday: off
Thursday: Behavioral Health (Manchester) 0730-1700 two Thursdays in a row, then 0730-1900 the third Thursday
Friday: Behavioral Health telehealth (Manchester or Strawberry Point) 0730-1700 two Fridays in a row, then 0730-1500 the third Friday
Wage Scales:
RN: $30.14 - 38.14
LPN: $24.90 - 30.87
CMA: $21.13 - 26.99
Sign on Bonus:
RN: $1500 at 90 days/$1500 at 1 year
CMA/LPN: $1000 at 90 days/$1000 at 1 year
This position assists Providers with patient examinations, treatments and procedures. This position is responsible for obtaining patient medical histories, performing routine laboratory procedures and collecting and preparing specimens for transportation to the lab in accordance with hospital and departmental standards and policies. The CMA/Nurse works with patients, families, providers, nursing staff, patient care representatives and ancillary staff to promote timely access to care, continuity of care, and to coach patients, families, and caregivers in understanding the patient's care plan and self-care management responsibilities.
Applies effective communication skills
Prepares patient for examination by updating medication list and evaluating social and family histories
Assesses patient's vital signs, including height and weight
Assists Providers in performing patient examinations and procedures: pap and pelvic exams, minor surgery, incision and drainage, aspiration, orthopedic cast removal
Gives medications and injections under provider supervision
Explains nature of examination, diagnostic tests, and/or treatment to patients at the Provider request
Assists with the collection of specimens: pap smears, throat cultures, urine samples etc.)
Instructs patients regarding proper preparation for tests
Prepares and replenishes supplies
Cleans instruments and assures maintenance of diagnostic equipment
Receives and organize medication samples
Assists with ordering medical supplies and maintaining inventory
Performs lab tests as ordered by Providers
Contacts patients with information regarding laboratory results, diagnostic results, changes in medication, scheduling of laboratory tests or procedures and referrals to specialists
Advises patients on health concerns and distributes patient education
Performs other specific duties as agreed upon between Provider and Supervisor to facilitate a smooth and effective operation
Maintains obstetrical records
Assists in ordering professional supplies
Maintains HIPAA compliance
Graduate of an accredited program for medical assisting, practical nursing or registered nursing
Current certification or licensure to practice in Iowa
BLS certification
Child and Dependent Adult Mandatory Reporter training required
