Position Overview
The Client Intake Specialist is a revenue-driven, client-facing position responsible for converting prospective criminal defense clients into retained clients of the firm. This role requires
prior sales or conversion experience
and involves managing the intake and onboarding process from first contact through signed engagement and payment initiation. The position is held to
weekly income and conversion goals
and plays a direct role in firm growth.
All duties are performed under attorney supervision and in compliance with ethical and professional standards applicable to non-lawyer staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as the primary point of contact for individuals seeking criminal defense representation
Respond promptly and professionally to incoming calls, texts, emails, and online inquiries
Conduct detailed intake screenings using firm-approved scripts and questionnaires
Explain the firm's criminal defense services, intake process, and representation structure
Apply sales and conversion techniques to guide prospective clients toward retention
Schedule and coordinate attorney consultations as appropriate
Present attorney-approved engagement agreements and obtain executed agreements
Facilitate initial retainer payments or approved payment arrangements
Perform consistent follow-up with prospective clients to encourage timely retention
Accurately document all intake activity, signed agreements, and communications
Meet or exceed
weekly income, conversion, and responsiveness performance goals
Maintain strict confidentiality and a professional, empathetic demeanor
Role Limitations
The Client Intake Specialist does not provide legal advice, does not draft legal documents, does not modify fee agreements, and does not communicate with courts, prosecutors, or opposing counsel.
Required Qualifications
Prior experience in sales, client intake, customer service, or a conversion-focused role
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Comfort discussing services, fees, retainers, and next steps with prospective clients
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently, manage high inquiry volume, and meet performance goals
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a law firm, criminal justice, or professional services environment
Familiarity with CRM, intake, or legal case management software
Bilingual (Spanish preferred, not required)
Performance Expectations
Consistent achievement of weekly income and client conversion targets
Prompt response to all prospective client inquiries
Accurate and complete intake documentation
Professional, ethical, and compassionate client interactions
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary: $34,000-$38,000 annually
Commission based on signed clients and onboarding success
