Position Summary:




The Physician Services Clerk provides quality customer service to patients and performs those functions delegated and assigned by the Office Manager

: Office Manager / Supervisor or Dept Director

Job Requirements:



Minimum Education:



High school diploma or equivalent required, Associate's degree or high preferred- Knowledge and experience with computers, coding, and medical terminology preferred

Required Skills:



Excellent oral and written communication skills Excellent customer service skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, problem-solve, and handle stress in a positive manner

Essential Functions



Carries out front office activities in a kind and courteous manner and is helpful to customers and their families Notifies office manager of customer complaints in a timely manner Gathers appropriate demographic information on each customer and updates the practice management system Notifies customers of long waits and offers alternatives Ensures effective telephone communication and documents messages Coordinates all EMR/medical record activities Collects and post payments and ensures safety and security of all monies Schedules patients and coordinates appointment scheduler activities to facilitate efficient patient flow Performs insurance eligibility verification and obtains prior authorization as needed Researches patient ledger in effort to educate patient on balances due and collect payment for services rendered Performs appointment confirmation telephone calls Completes required in-services Participates in the development and implementation of patient satisfaction improvements Makes referrals to other medical care team members when needed

Functional Demands:



Standing, sitting, walking, bending (45-90 degree angles) are required May require stair climbing Must be able to communicate clearly to customers in person and over the telephone Hearing must be adequate to perform duties Normal visual acuity necessary to perform duties May be exposed to injury by irrational or disturbed customers, to customers with communicable diseases and/or potentially dangerous equipment Must be able to read and write to fulfill job description- Must be able to prioritize and cope with stress in a positive manner
