Our mission...
The Oregon Racing Commission (ORC) is a one program agency charged with the responsibility to regulate all aspects of the pari-mutuel industry and therefore, to protect the licensees, the racing animal athletes, the public and the state. At the same time, the ORC encourages and supports members of the industry in promoting live handle growth and enhancing live racing by attracting businesses to Oregon that are involved in technological advancements. This includes live race meets conducted at horse tracks, off-track sites and multi-jurisdictional simulcasting and interactive wagering totalizator hubs who conduct business online through a closed-loop subscriber system.

The Investigative/Licensing Unit consists of a Chief Investigator (Business Operations Supervisor 2) and one full time Investigator who divides their time 40% towards licensing and 60% towards investigating. The unit is responsible for ensuring compliance with ORS chapter 462 and/or administrative rules governing racing and pari-mutuel wagering as well as licensing.

This position is eligible for remote work on a part-time basis once the incumbent has gained the proficiency to perform work independently. However, regular, scheduled office hours are also required.

Here\xe2\x80\x99s what you will do:

As a Chief Investigator, you will manage all on-track and off-track aspects of the Oregon Racing Commission\xe2\x80\x99s investigative unit, which includes:

  • Perform and assign investigations related to alleged violations of racing statutes and rules by licensees and members of the public and maintain a liaison with law enforcement agencies and other racing jurisdictions.

  • Provide and/or arrange investigative as well as enforcement support and assistance to the Board of Stewards/Judges, Veterinarians, and the Executive Director.

  • Ensure that work proceeds in a timely manner and in complete accordance with all relevant state and federal laws, rules regulations and policies.

Here\xe2\x80\x99s what you need to qualify:

Minimum Qualifications:

Four years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience

OR

one year of related experience and a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in a related field

Requested Skills:

  • Investigative or similar transferable experience.

  • LEDS certification highly preferred or ability to obtain LEDS certification within 30 days of hire.

  • Knowledge of rules of evidence.

  • Experience interpreting, applying, and enforcing relevant legal authorities.

  • Ability to clearly communicate both verbally and in writing to various types of people.
