Overview



Peterson Consulting is partnering with a respected

heavy civil construction contractor

to identify an experienced

Chief Estimator

to lead all preconstruction and estimating efforts. The company delivers complex, large-scale infrastructure projects across multiple markets, including

mass earthmoving, commercial and residential development, DOT infrastructure, dams and reservoirs, drainage, mining, and federal projects

.


This position offers an exciting opportunity for a seasoned estimating professional to lead a high-performing team, influence strategic pursuits, and play a key role in the continued success of a leading heavy civil construction firm.


Position Summary



The

Chief Estimator

will oversee the

development, management, and execution of all estimating operations

for diverse heavy civil projects. This includes cost estimating, bid preparation, subcontractor coordination, and estimating team leadership to ensure accuracy, competitiveness, and consistency across all preconstruction activities.


Key Responsibilities




Lead and manage the estimating function for heavy civil and earthwork projects of varying size and complexity. Review project plans, specifications, and addenda to develop detailed, accurate cost estimates. Direct, mentor, and develop the estimating team, fostering technical excellence and collaboration. Coordinate with project management, operations, and executive leadership to align estimating strategies with company goals. Manage subcontractor and supplier coordination, including bid solicitation, scope review, and cost comparison. Oversee bid schedules, deliverables, and review processes from conceptual budgeting through final proposal submission. Participate in alternative delivery pursuits such as

CMAR, CMGC, and Design-Build

, providing early cost input and value analysis. Ensure compliance with all project requirements, industry standards, and internal estimating procedures.

Qualifications




Experience:



+ Minimum of

10 years

in

heavy civil and earthwork construction

.
+ Minimum of

5 years

of estimating experience with a proven track record of successful project delivery.
+ At least

2 years

in a

leadership or supervisory role

within an estimating or preconstruction department.

Technical Proficiency:



+ Expertise with

HeavyBid, B2W

, or similar estimating software.
+ Proficiency in

Microsoft Office

,

Bluebeam PDF

, and scheduling software (

Microsoft Project

or

Primavera

).
+ Working knowledge of

digital takeoff tools

such as

Agtek

and

Autodesk

.

+ Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
