Under the supervision of a Chaplain Manager/Supervisor/Lead, the Chaplain provides spiritual support to patients, their families, and staff. Position will be responsible for visiting patients of all faith backgrounds, and providing special rites as requested by patients or their family. This position will cover scheduled hospital hours and on call hours


Required Skills

  • Knowledge of common spiritual, psychosocial, and psychological issues related to illness, hospitalization, death and dying.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Facilitate in public speaking/prayers, leading religious services, and designing training events for volunteers and staff.
  • Ability to conduct spiritual assessment in diverse complex situations and to intervene appropriately to alleviate distress.
  • Demonstrated counseling and listening skills.
  • Ability to plan and carry out effective programs to meet the needs of the department.
  • Basic computer skills to allow the Chaplain to use the electronic medical documentation software to chart the visits, print reports, access documentation from other disciplines and print search results.
  • Working knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Office.
  • Interpersonal competence and capacity to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary environment with other staff.


Required Experience

Required:
  • Master of Divinity (or equivalent) from an accredited Seminary
  • Five years of pastoral experience, one year in a hospital setting or equivalent
  • Ordination and endorsement for chaplaincy by denomination
  • Experience working in an ecumenical/interfaith environment

Preferred:
  • Board Certified Chaplain (or expected within first year of employment)
  • Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or equivalent education and experience
  • Spanish fluency
