The Recreation Specialist plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals through engaging recreational activities. This position involves planning, implementing, and evaluating programs that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being. Duties
Develop and facilitate recreational programs tailored to the needs of participants, including music therapy, dance therapy, art therapy, and group therapy sessions.
Conduct assessments to determine the interests and abilities of participants to create personalized activity plans.
Maintain accurate medical documentation and records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care for individuals in settings such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and community care environments.
Provide individual and group counseling focused on behavioral health, mental health counseling, and crisis management.
Organize activities that promote physical fitness such as swimming, yoga, and dance while ensuring safety protocols are followed.
Engage with participants in various settings including geriatrics, pediatrics, addiction counseling, dementia care, Alzheimer's care, PTSD care, and special education.
Collect data on participant progress and program effectiveness to inform future programming decisions.
Skills
Candidates should possess a diverse skill set that includes but is not limited to:
Experience in recreational therapy and working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
Knowledge of medical terminology and patient assessment techniques.
Proficiency in behavioral management strategies and case management practices.
Familiarity with various therapeutic modalities such as music therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, equine experience, and behavioral therapy.
Strong communication skills for effective individual/group counseling sessions.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment while demonstrating compassion and empathy towards participants.
Experience in crisis management and understanding of mental health challenges faced by diverse populations.
