Job Summary and Qualifications

Job Summary:

This position supports the mission of The Medical Center of Aurora and Centennial Medical Plaza of optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person.
  • Provides asset management and support of surgical instruments and trays belonging to or consigned to the facility, in accordance with The Department of Health, TJC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI and AORN standards.
  • Properly handles, decontaminates, assembles, sterilizes and returns for use all instrumentation in accordance with the above organizational standards.
  • Assists to develop and establish workflow, process improvements, daily work assignments, log documentation and management. \xe2\x80\xa2 Develops and implements educational offerings to SPD staff.
  • Accurate and timely reporting of shift details to incoming shift staff and Lead Technician.
  • Delegate responsibility, assign lunch and break schedule.
  • Supports daily operations of any activities that pertain to the processing of reusable instrumentation.
  • Works with other departments, including Supply Chain, in order to provide all necessary items to perioperative services.
  • Reporting of broken instrumentation, and vital communication with team leadership and/or manager.
  • Demonstrates consistent success in working, communicating with, and mentoring diverse staff.
  • Communicates in a professional manner to all staff and facility employees.
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of instrumentation in multiple specialty areas.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What qualifications you will need:

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician required. BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross preferred.

Education: HS Diploma or GED required Experience: At least 1 years of previous SPD experience, or similar clinical experience required. 2 years are preferred.

Special Qualifications: Medical terminology and familiarity with surgical instrumentation preferred. Good organizational and leadership skills, attention to detail and ability to multitask in a high-pressure environment. Must be able to read and speak English fluently.
