Responsibilities
The Phlebotomist will assist the HarmonyCares Medical Group (HCMG) Physician in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management in a residential setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Serves patients by identifying the best method for retrieving blood samples and other specimens for laboratory testing, and performing screening procedures
Verifies test requisitions by comparing information with the clinician order and bringing discrepancies to the attention of Leadership
Verifies patient identification and explains sampling procedures to patients
Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks
Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures and observing isolation procedures
Track collected specimens by initialing, dating and noting times of collection and maintaining daily tallies of collections performed
Maintains safe, secure, healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations
Serves and protects the hospital or healthcare facility community by adhering to professional standards, institutional policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements
Takes vital signs as needed
Labels, stores and properly packages specimens for delivery to lab
Logs patient information for accurate processing and testing
Logs information in compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) standards
Performs all clinical duties while observing OSHA and HIPAA requirements
Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatment (supply inventory, medical bag and car)
Facilitates required Consent Form signatures as needed
Attends required meetings and in-services

Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
High School Diploma
Phlebotomist Certification
CPR Certification
Must maintain a valid driver's license and good driving record
Ability to drive up to 150 miles daily in urban and/or rural setting
Full range body motion including handling/lifting patients
Ability to lift/carry items weighing up to 50 lbs
Ability to read and understand road maps
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
Adept at venipuncture, phlebotomy and finger sticks
Excellent verbal and written communication and documentation skills
Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR)
Experienced in appropriate IT technology such as IPad and GPS
Interpersonal skills and compassion
Ability to work independently, analyze information, think critically and problem solve
Attention to detail
Procedural and organizational skills
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Six months of experience in patient care, preferably geriatric care
