The Trinity College Campus Safety Department prides itself on being an engaged, professional community-oriented department that ensures the safety and security of the College through problem solving and partnerships. This is achieved by supporting a diverse workforce, continuous training, and a collaborative approach to safeguarding the campus through extensive interaction and partnerships with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and the broader Hartford community.
Campus Safety is part of the Division of Student Success and Enrollment Management. The goal of this division is to support the mission of Trinity College by delivering exceptional educational, athletic, recreational, and developmental experiences focused on the principles and values of community, diversity, equity, and inclusivity. To that end, we seek to hire qualified individuals with both the skills and mindset to provide for the health and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and surrounding community. The staff in Campus Safety play a vital role in supporting a positive student experience and helping to create a campus environment that supports student retention and graduation. We also seek to hire individuals who value life-long learning. Recently, we have reviewed and updated the policy manual with a focus on policies and programs to prepare officers to meet the types of challenges that are both routine in and unique to a college setting. Our policies support the mission of the college and in doing so we have emphasized the following key areas in our policies to enhance Campus Safety's support of an inclusive campus climate: implementation of anti-discrimination/bias-free policing policy; increased focus on community policing/engagement; formalized & enhanced accountability systems; and the development of crisis intervention/de-escalation and use of force policies.
