Job Title: Camp Wakonda - Day Camp Assistant Group Leader

POSITION SUMMARY:

Supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Builds members\' and the community\'s understanding of the YMCA\'s cause and impact.

Provides leadership and direct supervision of a group of youth in a seasonal outdoor day camp setting. Provides positive engagement with youth in a safe, nurturing environment with a diverse, equitable, and inclusive lens. Provides quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Assists in leading energizing, fun, culturally aware, safe, and camp activities and field trips, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.

• Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
• Attends staff meetings, trainings, and special events.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
• Builds and maintains positive, culturally aware relationships with parents, youth participants and other staff. Models\' relationship-building skills in all interactions.
• Project a positive, enthusiastic, and professional image on the job at all times.
• Be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently or as a team member.
• Be punctual and dependable.
• Wears YMCA staff shirt or name tag at all times

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS: * At least 16 years of age

• High school graduate or equivalent (if applicable)
• Must pass a background check (if applicable)
• Previous experience working with youth preferably in a day camp setting
• Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living/education, music (instrumental or songs), dramatic arts, aquatics, sports/PE/recreational games, creative arts, etc.
• Strong Desire to work with youth grades K-12
• Behavioral management skills
• Ability to actively implement program activities.
• Effective verbal communication skills
• Ability to be flexible, multi-task.
• CPR/First Aid/AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training completed prior to camp start date.
• Completed health form prior to start date.
