Nevada State College (NSC) invites applications for the position of Scorpion STEAM Academy Camp Instructor.

Nevada State College Scorpion STEAM Academy supports the development and growth of its diverse community of young STEAM learners through innovative, engaging experiences that promote the acquisition of interdisciplinary knowledge and skills to enhance student\'s personal, academic, and professional career success while meeting the needs of tomorrow\'s workforce of Nevada.

Scorpion STEAM Academy promotes an increased interest in science, technology, engineering, and math, including their applications in various fields, through targeted classroom-based learning reinforced by hands-on projects and educational field trips to facilities of industry partners.

There are positions open for course instructors in the following STEAM camp areas:

1. Robotics

2. Computer Programming

3. Medical/Health Science

4. CSI/Forensics

5. Digital Arts & Visual Media

6. Natural Sciences/Environment/Ecology

Each camp area above will be offered in a one-week format with approximately 20 hours for educational activities each week and will be repeated over each of the six weeks. Applications will be accepted for single-week contracts with preference given to those able to teach on multiple weeks. Additional details regarding the course content for each position will be discussed at the time of the job interview.

Week 1: June 5th through June 9th.

Week 2: June 12th through June 16th.

Week 3: June 19th through June 23rd.

Week 4: June 26th through June 30th.

No camps the week of July 3rd through July 7th.

Week 5: July 10th through July 14th.

Week 6: July 17th through July 21st.

There is a mandatory training on June 2nd for all instructors.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Confer with the Director of Workforce Development to discuss program goals and camp objectives;
  • Develop and deliver a curriculum that addresses camp objectives;
  • Utilize innovative classroom techniques and methodologies that involve students in challenging learning opportunities;

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and technology skills.
  • Commitment to active learning and teaching strategies.
  • Employment is contingent upon a successful criminal background check.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (NSC does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Please note: Applicants must meet the posted minimum qualifications at the time of application in order to be considered for the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in teaching area.
  • Previous experience teaching middle school aged students.
  • Experience in web-based coursework.
  • Demonstrated commitment to active learning and innovative teaching.

Work Hours:

20 hours per week.

Weekly Rate:

$1,000 per week.
