Job Description


As a Buyer with Sherman & Reilly, you will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing the necessary materials, components, and sub-assemblies required to manufacture our products in an effective and efficient manner. The Buyer will source and procure a variety of commodities including those which are non-standard or of a technical nature, and develop suppliers to meet our quality, delivery, and cost requirements while maintaining appropriate inventory levels.

This position will report to the Purchasing Supervisor under the Supply Chain Manager. This position must work closely with Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, and Service, and interface effectively with all levels and departments within the organization.

  • Use in-house tools to determine items to procure and dates by which they need to arrive.
  • Prepare purchasing documentation and verify specifications of purchasing requisitions.
  • Evaluate specifications of items needed and identify and qualify vendors to provide such items.
  • Develop expertise on procurement of products and components that support S+R\'s requirements.
  • Update and maintain purchase orders in ERP system for changes in design and delivery requirements.
  • Support, and when required lead, cost reduction projects and improvement initiatives to achieve overall business objectives.
  • Balance current and future demand requirements with supplier capabilities/capacities to ensure on-time delivery of purchased parts.
  • Evaluate supplier performance requirements including quality, cost, and delivery expectations.
  • Work with suppliers for improved quality, on-time delivery, lead time, and price performance. Evaluate these metrics with suppliers regularly and report results to management.
  • Collaborate with engineering on new product development to support projects, align design with our strategic supply base, and deliver products on time and at/below cost
  • Assist with reports that measure performance and drive change throughout the supply chain.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
  • Bachelor\'s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Supply Chain or Industrial Engineering discipline from four-year, accredited, college or university or equivalent experience.
  • Four (4) + years of sourcing/purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
