Duties Description \xe2\x80\xa2 Under the direction of the Navigation Aids crew supervisor, the Buoy Crew Assistant will:

  • Assist in maintaining the NY statewide navigable buoy marker system, providing critical safety information to boaters.
  • Provide assistance to the crew supervisor in the completion of buoy placements in the spring and removal in late fall.
  • Maintain buoys and all equipment needed to haul, place, remove and repair navigational aids for the public waterways in NYS.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
The selected candidate:
  • Must be physically able to perform heavy lifting on shore as well as from the platform of a boat.
  • Must be able to commit to weekly, mandatory travel to lakes throughout New York State as required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid New York State Driver\'s License as a term and condition of employment.
  • Must possess or obtain a New York State Boating Safety Certificate as a term and condition of employment.
  • Must be willing to work in a variety of weather conditions and must be prepared to endure boating conditions that can include choppy water as well as cold and wet weather.
SCHEDULE:
Monday through Thursday 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM from April through November.
The Buoy Crew Assistant will work a total of 34 weeks with travel to other lakes in NYS 50% of the time.
