Overview:
Starting pay for this position is $16.60/hour.

1-8 hour shift (0730-4p)

POSITION SUMMARY: General birth certificate specialist responsibilities include reporting to the patient care manager and following prescribed procedures, obtaining data on births in the Medical Center, interviewing mothers to collect personal information, entering information into appropriate databases and generate birth certificates. Obtains necessary signatures and performs other related clerical duties as required. The birth certificate specialist will have the additional responsibilities to act as administrator of the Illinois Vital Statistics Record for OSF SFMC creating tracking logs and data management submission compliant with current requirements The birth certificate specialist will represent OSF SFMC and sister facilities as needed on State of Illinois initiatives and quality data abstraction and submission including data mining and working with quality analysts for OSF with accuracy for submitted data ensured. The birth certificate specialist is responsible for communication with State of Illinois birth certificate representatives and with the director of Perinatal Outreach for the appropriate regions within the State of Illinois that are represented by OSF. Is responsible for the education and training of newly hired birth certificate clerks and for their access into appropriate data bases and electronic records, including being actively involved in the process of performance evaluations with management of the birth certificate clerks and updating the manager of any performance issues.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to read in order to review medical records for completeness, to write in order to maintain a wide variety of activity and file status records, and basic knowledge of medical terminology as normally acquired through completion of high school. Requires typing skills that can be acquired during high school. Approximately 3 to 6 months on the job experience necessary in order to learn medical terminology and to learn Medical Center policies and procedures related to birth certificate preparation. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to effectively interact with patients, physicians and other Medical Center personnel when obtaining and supplying routine, factual information. Basic analytical skills necessary in order to detect missing and/or incorrect information from patient charts and to contact appropriate source(s) to complete records.
