The State of Connecticut Judicial Branch is seeking a Backup and Storage Administrator (Information Technology Analyst Trainee) for the Platform Services Unit for the Information Technology Division, Qualified applicants will possess experience in the specific functional area of Platform Administration.

The successful candidate will work with senior administrators on server backup and recovery using multiple platforms. The candidate will also be introduced and trained on the implementation, administration, and maintenance of the Branch\xe2\x80\x99s enterprise electronic data storage systems, storage area networks services in a virtual server/storage environment. The selected candidate will assist with development of specifications for data storage and backup solutions based on business requirements and recommend appropriate technologies and configurations while conforming to current industry standards and industry best practices. This includes working with hardware and software vendors to ensure that target goals are met, and issues are resolved in a timely manner.

The qualified candidate will provide daily production support as required and assist in the preparation of IT architecture models to support high availability, growth, and disaster recovery per business requirement. The candidate will participate in performing structured multi-layered analysis on facilities, hardware, and software for failure points, as well as performance improvements.

Responsibilities will include generating capacity and performance reports, and working with senior administrators on proposals and recommendations to meet the business needs. The candidate will be introduced and trained on SAN zoning and provisioning, LUN Masking, Disk Allocation, and Storage Replication with EMC storage solutions utilizing storage management tools. Candidates should have general knowledge and understanding of Virtualization, Data Storage and Backup. Some experience with DellEMC Avamar Administration and client troubleshooting, VMware 7.x, Microsoft Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022 SAN/NAS Storage Systems including fiber channel networking and Linux is preferred.

Strong preference will be provided to those applicants who have assisted in the installation and maintenance of major subsystems or installed and maintained other host and/or mini-computer systems and possess Microsoft Azure certification (Role based or Functional certification) in IAAS or PAAS.

Experience with the following compute / workflow systems is desired:

  • Avamar backup software
  • Site Recovery Manager
  • Cisco Fiber Channel Switches
  • Microsoft Azure Cloud Storage
  • Microsoft Azure Storage
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, with a collaborative approach to work in a close team environment. Ability to work effectively with all levels of technical and non-technical staff and management is necessary.

This position qualifies for hybrid remote work.

Salary Range: $61,503 - $82,036/year \xe2\x80\x93 plus State of Connecticut benefits.

New employees begin at the minimum. The starting salary for existing state employees may be higher than the minimum, in accordance with existing Judicial Branch policy.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
General Experience: Two (2) years of experience in information technology (IT) operations, programming, systems/software development or other IT related field.

Substitutions Allowed:
1) College training in management information systems, computer science, electrical engineering or related area may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling six (6) months of experience to a maximum of two (2) years for an Associate\xe2\x80\x99s degree.

2) Relevant Technical School training leading to a diploma in an information technology specialty (i.e. Computer networking Management, Computer Programming, etc.) may be substituted for one (1) year of the general experience.

3) Relevant certification in management information systems, computer science, electrical engineering, project management or related area may be substituted for up to six (6) months of the general experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Incumbents may be required to travel within the State in the course of their daily work. Incumbents in this class will be eligible for advancement to the target class of Information Technology Analyst 1 after successful completion of two (2) years of on-the-job training.
