This position is located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Background Investigator I/II/III Annual Salary:

  • Level I C44A - $35,874.00 + Full State Employment Benefits
  • Level II C44B - $38,563.00 + Full State Employment Benefits
  • Level III C44C - $42,419.30 + Full State Employment Benefits

Travel is EXTENSIVE - Must possess a valid driver\'s license and must maintain required car insurance. Job Responsibilities This position is responsible for collecting information from background investigations and criminal history searches on current and prospective employees, community partners, vendors, and volunteers. Information is collected for Child Welfare and Child Care Licensing programs. Additionally, this position will provide technical support to Child Care providers, Child Care Services, and Child Welfare Services. This position will also be responsible for contacting courts, district attorney offices, and local law enforcement to obtain the necessary documents to complete background check requests. The background Investigator will communicate with OSBI and Idemia for fingerprint investigations.
Minimum Qualifications Background Investigator, Level I - To qualify, applicants must have a bachelor\'s degree or four years of technical clerical office work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Background Investigator, Level II - To qualify, applicants must have a bachelor\'s degree and one year of professional or technical administrative* experience in business or public administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of qualifying experience for each year of the required education. Background Investigator, Level III - To qualify, applicants must have a bachelor\'s degree and one year of professional or technical administrative* experience in business or public administration plus one year of professional business or public administration experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of qualifying experience for each year of the required education.
  • Technical administrative experience would include highly complex clerical work gained under the direct supervision of a professional supervisor or manager.
Preference may be given to candidates with education or experience in Child Welfare, Child Care Services, and Criminal Justice. Job Duties - Level I
  • The functions within this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:
  • Conducts comprehensive interviews with applicants/employees, employers, associates, references, and other knowledgeable individuals to establish the background, reputation, character, or suitability of the applicant, employee, community partner, vendor, and/or volunteer.
  • Collects and analyzes data regarding employment history, criminal activities, and related records of the applicant, employee, community partner, vendor, and/or volunteer; determines the value of data for placement into a computerized data management system.
  • Analyzes public records, such as law enforcement reports, judgments, and educational transcripts of the applicant, employee, community partner, vendor, and/or volunteer; contacts other agencies, departments, and organizations to obtain and confirm the information as necessary.
  • Verifies that the applicant possesses at least the minimum education and experience requirements listed on the official job description.
  • Analyzes investigation results and draws logical and objective conclusions; may confer with agency officials or hiring managers; makes recommendations regarding suitability for employment or involvement in agency partnerships.
  • Prepares the written background investigation report in a narrative format prescribed by agency policy.
  • Prioritizes and monitors multiple assigned investigations to ensure compliance with due dates.
  • Ability to work on a diverse team and directly with people from diverse backgrounds specifically racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and disabilities.
