Position: AVP, API Integrations

Job Location: Cary, North Carolina

The Role: This role, API integrations, is responsible for creating the API Technology roadmap and strategy for the US Business. This role requires strong technical and architecture skills sets in API Design/Implementation, API Management, and Micro services. This role also requires strong communication and collaboration skillsets, to be leveraged to work across the GTO ecosystem as well as with Business Partners to drive an optimal Technology strategy and roadmap leading to prioritized delivery of Business growth outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to drive API strategy / roadmap initiatives while aligning strategy to the US Business objectives.
  • Collaborate with architects and partners in GEP and DnA in defining the technical API roadmap, strategy and solution, evolution to API enabled services.
  • Help establish API organizations, API development methodology, design principles, architecture and selection of API technology components.
  • Evangelize a shift to a domain driven, API-first methodology.
  • Lead or assist in responding to API Platform enhancement requests / API pattern and recipe extensions
  • Enable policy-as-code automation.
  • Liaison between product, architecture, and development team members.
  • Works directly with product owners to ensure stories contain the right balance of technical direction, best practices, and level of detail.
  • Lead API design driven by Business requirements.
  • Lead a team of API developers in delivering large and complex API solutions.
  • Manage project, client and vendor relationships, team, finances.
  • Participate in thought leadership and vendor relationships.
  • Provide guidance to developers across the US Business Technology on self-service Design, implementation, testing, governance, and deployment of APIs using the latest technologies (Azure API management/ API Connect/ Apigee / AWS API Gateway/ Service Mesh and Ingress / Cloud Gateways) and best practices.
  • Implement API management using API management software (like Azure APIM, API Connect, Apigee or others) to include API proxies, mashups, rate limiting, security, analytics, monetization, and developer portals
  • Ensure compliance with Architectural guidelines/governance.
  • Ensure compliance with Security guidelines/governance.
  • Communicate risks, issues, challenges, and status/progress of the project.
  • Document requirements, design, architecture, and test scripts.
Key Relationships:
  • Reports to: VP Shared US Technology Applications and Software Engineering Enablement
  • Direct reports/team: 7-10
  • Key Stakeholders: US Technology Development Teams
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
  • 8- 10 years of experience with an API management / gateway software like Azure APIM (preferred) IBM API Connect or equivalent with the knowledge of API mashups, analytics, developer networks, monetization models and security.
  • Working knowledge in IBM API Management in implementing REST API, SOAP APIs, Plans, and Security Policies.
  • 2 to 4 years of know-how in implementing security and identity protocols such as OpenID, TLS, OAuth, SAML, SSO, PKI (encryption and key management), REST.
  • Knowledge in API design and implementation and system integration using APIs.
  • Experience in working on the cloud (iPaas / Saas).
  • 5 years of development leadership and technical architecture experience.
  • 8 years of experience in managing teams, clients, vendors, finances.
  • Strong knowledge of full software development, testing, deployment and operational lifecycle.
  • Development experience using Java, Python, .NET, XML, JSP or ASP, JavaScript or VB Script and Node.js; WSDL/SOAP/XML and REST/JSON, Swagger or equivalent.
  • Experience in HTTP/HTTPS protocol, web services and use of web servers.
  • Experience of developing and supporting scalable products for a large user base.
  • Must have expertise in Scripting languages like JavaScript, Perl, Unix, etc.
  • Experience in Agile tools.
  • Expertise in implementing cryptography technologies like Encryption, Decryption, Digital Signature.
  • Knowledge in Load balancers, firewalls, DMZ and other network concepts related Datapower will be an advantage.
  • Working knowledge in version control systems like SVN or Git.
  • Working knowledge in IBM Advance developer portal is a plus.
