Job Summary:
The AV Field Engineer is responsible for leading and executing complex audiovisual system installations across diverse customer environments. This role includes hands-on system integration, technical troubleshooting, on-site team leadership, and close collaboration with project management throughout the entire project lifecycle. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, safe, and reliable AV solutions. Frequent travel to customer sites is required.
Responsibilities:
Execute installations of complex audiovisual systems across various customer locations.
Provide technical oversight and support for integrated AV projects, ensuring adherence to project scope and design specifications.
Supervise and guide on-site installation teams, ensuring efficient execution from project kickoff through completion.
Perform rigorous system testing, troubleshooting, and calibration to ensure optimal performance and client satisfaction.
Produce detailed project documentation, including system configurations, test results, and as-built updates.
Maintain strict compliance with safety, quality, and industry standards.
Stay current with emerging AV technologies, manufacturers, and best practices.
Collaborate closely with Project Managers to resolve implementation challenges.
Identify special project considerations such as rigging, lifts, and custom or specialized mounting requirements.
Travel to job sites as needed (up to 50%).
Required Skills, Abilities & Competencies
Proven experience installing and supporting professional AV systems (e.g.,
Crestron, Extron, Biamp, Q-Sys
, etc.).
Strong technical understanding of AV system design, integration, and signal flow.
Proficiency in terminating low-voltage audio, video, and data cabling.
Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across hardware, software, and networking components.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to convey technical concepts clearly.
Relevant technical certifications preferred:
Shure, Biamp, AVIXA CTS, Q-SYS, Crestron, Extron
, etc.
Ability to travel (up to 50%) and work flexible hours, including occasional weekends.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Working knowledge of IP networking fundamentals.
Experience installing and troubleshooting low-voltage data cables.
Experience with
Visio or CAD
applications is a plus.
Hands-on experience installing AV hardware such as projectors, displays, video walls, speakers, mounts, and collaboration tools.
Familiarity with collaboration platforms (
Microsoft Teams, Cisco WebEx, Zoom
).
Ability to lift 25 lbs frequently and up to 75 lbs periodically.
Demonstrated ability to lead installation efforts while on-site.
Education & Experience
Minimum
5+ years of relevant AV installation or field engineering experience
required.
Passion for AV technology and delivering best-in-class installations.
Proven leadership capabilities in on-site installation environments.
Certifications from
Biamp, QSC, Crestron, Shure, Dante (Levels 1-3)
are highly preferred but not required.
Strong project and time management skills.
Background in AV testing, commissioning, and quality assurance.
Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
