Job Description


Under supervision, provides analysis and/or recommendations on legal issues within the scope and authority of the agency. Acts as a liaison or representative between the agency and Department of Law. Acts as a resource to answer questions and evaluates the status of reimbursements or recoupments. Coordinates and implements due process procedures and procedures for appeals. Participates in the implementation of settlements, agreements, and/or legal judgments within approved guidelines. Participates in the preparation and coordination of cases prior to and during court trials and administrative hearings. Prepares grant and contract proposals, and administers contracts with funding agencies. Provides research and analysis of legal, policy and environmental issues. Reviews investigative reports and identifies areas that require further investigation. Develops, oversees, and implements administrative processes designed to maintain and monitor the legal compliance of department processes and activities.. Represents agency in administrative hearings, as a client to the Department of Law, or as other legal liaison.. Provides legal services such as writing articles, drafting or amending legislation, regulations contracts and reviewing documents for legal compliance. Identifies and resolves, or assists in the resolution of, legal problems, liability and/or risk management issues. Preference will be given to applicants who already are members in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia. Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the entry qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
1. Experience working in a law office representing a governmental entity;
2. Experience dealing with requests for documents under the Open Records Act;
3. Experience working in a correctional or law enforcement setting;
4. Experience reviewing and analyzing pleadings, subpoenas, and similar documents;
5. Employment law experience;
6. Civil rights law experience; and
7. Experience providing instruction to adults in a classroom setting.

Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring OR reciprocity (must obtain Law License). Note: Some positions may not allow the eligibility clause
