Job Description


The Pediatric Attending Physiatrist is responsible for providing high quality pediatric care for inpatients and outpatients as assigned. The Attending will provide consultation services at established partner hospitals. The Attending will participate in Outpatient programs including Day Rehabilitation, pediatric outpatient clinics at offsite locations and inter-disciplinary clinics at partner hospitals, including Lurie Children\xe2\x80\x99s and Comer Children\xe2\x80\x99s.

The Attending will function as a faculty member of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine with an academic appointment commensurate with level of experiences.

Principal Responsibilities

Attending Physician: * VISION:

  • Supports Shirley Ryan AbilityLab and is able to articulate and communicate these visions broadly.
  • QUALITY:
  • Assumes responsibility for patient clinical care quality, safety, outcomes and satisfaction.
  • Maintains compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Fosters an environment of continuous improvement through use of Continuous Quality Improvement principles.
  • Actively participates in assigned organizational and Medical Committee work.
  • MARKETING:
  • Participates in marketing efforts and in developing and maintaining referral sources.
  • SCIENCE, ACADEMICS AND RESEARCH:
  • Advocates a scientific approach to patient care delivery. Advances the academic mission of Shirley Ryan AbilityLab by providing an exciting teaching environment and maintaining strong relationships with academic institutions and professional organizations. The Attending may also pursue scholarly activity through scientific presentations and publications.
  • Participates in research and medical education activities, including teaching medical students and residents, Grand Rounds, continuing education programs and in-service training programs.
  • Assists in Fellowships training as appropriate.
  • Cultivates a collaborative and professional work environment that stimulates inquiry, the scientific method and continuous improvement.
  • PRACTICING PHYSICIAN:
  • Ensures evidenced-based scientific approach to patient care delivery and collaborates with clinicians and scientists in pediatric rehabilitation clinical research.
  • Participates in research within pediatric rehabilitation, either as principal investigator or as co-investigator. Intra- and extramural funding, and publishing scientific articles is desirable
  • Collaborates with leaders and staff in other Shirley Ryan AbilityLab Programs to facilitate achieving overall organizational goals.
  • Serves as a practicing physician and provides medical leadership to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Ensures appropriateness and effectiveness of treatment plan; oversees and coordinates the involvement of physicians, nursing and allied health staff to resolve complex medical problems.
  • Participates in assigned medical staff committees, chairing as appropriate.
  • Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interests of Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
Reporting Relationships * Reports directly to the Section Chief of Pediatric PMR or the Chief Medical Officer, as appropriate.

Required Skills

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required * Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Illinois.
  • Successful completion of a residency program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Fellowship in Pediatric Physiatry, and is Board Certified or Board Eligible.
  • Faculty appointment at Northwestern University Medical School.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including proven ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, referring parties, staff, managed-care organizations and payors, scientists and other internal and external stakeholders.
Required Experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required * Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Illinois.
