Job Summary

The Associate Vice President, Pediatric Heart Center is responsible for the coordination of all aspects of the pediatric heart center operations across multiple sites of care. The AVP, Pediatric Heart Center works collaboratively with key stakeholders including nursing leaders, organization leaders and physicians to integrate operations and to insure efficiency and effectiveness of outcomes; and ensure fiscal viability of the Pediatric Heart Center to include budget preparation based on strategic direction and anticipated changes in healthcare delivery. The AVP, Pediatric Heart Center is responsible for providing leadership to ensure the optimal delivery of quality care, customer service and education within established standards.

Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development as it relates to the different life cycles. Specific age groups that are served by this position are circled:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Masters Degree in related field

Licenses/Certifications: Current Texas Registered Nurse License without restrictions

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of leadership and management experience in nursing and hospital operations and at least three (3) of them in a direct leadership role in a hospital setting or direct patient care environment, specifically in pediatric cardiac care.
  • Ability to develop and execute growth strategies

  • Strong organizational, analytical and communication abilities
  • Excellent problem solving and decision making skills
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Responsible for partnering with physicians, and service line and hospital leadership to integrate the outpatient and inpatient services to create a seamless experience for patients and physician
  • Develops and executes plans to enhance the reputation and image of the Children\'s Memorial Hermann Pediatric Heart Center through community, healthcare, and professional organizations, as well as public relations activities as appropriate.
  • Acts as a resource and advisor to directors, managers and supervisors; assists with planning, organizing and directing patient care.
  • Evaluates his/her own performance based on professional practice standards, relevant regulations and organizational criteria.
  • Maintains current knowledge in administrative practices.
  • Remains visible and available for consultation as needed (i.e. staffing, employee satisfaction, turnover rate, competent staff and team).
  • Coordinates and directs budget preparation for achievement of financial and operational goals for the hospital and for the division of nursing. Assures operations of areas of accountability meet or exceed budget projects.
  • Ensures operations of areas of accountability meet or exceed customer and physician satisfaction.
  • Ensures that personnel will adhere to the Memorial Hermann Behavioral Expectations; reviews opinion surveys and comments/complaints and summaries to identify opportunities to improve patient services and to resolve problems; maintains a high reputation for both the department and the hospital.
  • Develops, maintains and evaluates patient and staff data collection systems and processes to support the practice of nursing and the delivery of patient care to include: an environment that supports the professional nurse in analysis of assessment data and in decision-making to promote desired client outcomes. Develops report cards, monitoring the outcomes for each patient care service area. Identifies opportunities for improvement, and recommends action plans as well as develops new programs/services.
  • Develops, maintains and evaluates organizational systems that support the implementation of strategic plans for the hospital and for the division of nursing. Evaluates organizational systems to facilitate the delivery of nursing care. Stays up-to-date on new developments in healthcare and looks for business development areas as well as for opportunities for new patient care services.
  • Remains visible and available to physicians and medical directors, and seeks input and feedback on hospital matters, especially planning of services, medical staff bylaws, as well as policy and procedure changes. Attends medical staff meetings to ensure effective communication throughout the hospital. Provides rapid response and follow-up to medical staff issues; greets new physicians and orients them to hospital operations; seeks ways to encourage physicians to utilize hospital services.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Models Memorial Hermann\'s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
