Job Summary: Markel Specialty Commercial, a division of Markel Corporation, is currently seeking an Associate Underwriter to join our high-energy and professional underwriting team. The position is focused around our small general business product offerings: Workers\xe2\x80\x99 compensation, Business owners (BOP), Umbrella and Miscellaneous errors and omissions. As a member of the Underwriting team, the Associate Underwriter collaborates and supports Underwriters and Underwriting Management, regularly interacts with internal and external customers and plays a key role in ensuring that production and profitability goals are met and exceeded. This individual will utilize Markel\xe2\x80\x99s proprietary underwriting systems to review new and renewal policies and will complete various tasks to assist with the underwriting of accounts. The Associate Underwriter position is a potential lead-in position for a state/line Underwriter role within Markel, making this a position for an individual who is looking for a career in underwriting and is motivated to excel and achieve.

• Service and make changes to new and renewal Worker\xe2\x80\x99s Compensation, Business owner\xe2\x80\x99s insurance, and Miscellaneous Errors and Omissions policies;
• Review, research, and Issue insurance policies;
• Respond to agency requests related to existing insurance policies;
• Respond to National Council on Compensation Insurance requests for information;
• Review loss control reports and forward to appropriate state Underwriter;
• Complete tasks assigned by Underwriters and Underwriting Management..

Qualifications

• Bachelor\'s degree preferred;
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel and Outlook and overall computer system comfort and fluency;
• Ability to develop relationships with internal and external customers;
• Highly self-motived;
• Superior attention to detail;
• Ability to manage high volume task queue;
• Ability to learn and understand the execution of state Underwriting guidelines;
• Prior financial services or insurance experience and designations are a PLUS!
