Position Description This role will be based at our Downtown Atlanta office 2-4 days per week.
JOB SUMMARY Provides analytical support to senior staff members in Surveillance Research. The incumbent will have the opportunity to lead and support original research on various topics of cancer surveillance research, including emerging cancer trends, breast cancer disparities, late effects of cancer, and global cancer statistics. This position will provide an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated candidate to gain research experience in cancer surveillance and health disparities using national and international data.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conducts and supports cancer surveillance research in frameworks of both descriptive and analytical studies.
  • Research topics include but are not limited to monitoring cancer trends, breast cancer disparities, late effects of cancer, and global cancer statistics.
  • Conducts comprehensive literature reviews; compiles manages, and provides data from various sources (SEER, CiNA, SEER-Medicare, National Health Interview Survey, medical claims data, etc.); performs statistical analysis; creates tables and graphs; participates in manuscript writing.
  • Participates in the development of service publications.
  • Collaborates internally and externally on cancer surveillance research.
  • Contributes to the dissemination of the department\xe2\x80\x99s research through presentations at scientific conferences and media communication.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant scientific literature and present the information appropriately for both lay and scientific audiences.


Position Requirements
FORMAL KNOWLEDGE
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, data science, and/or a closely related field with rigorous training in biostatistical methods and their applications.
  • Minimum 1-year experience in epidemiology/statistical/analytical work in a public health or research environment.
  • Sound knowledge of fundamental principles of epidemiology.
  • Cancer surveillance experience is highly desirable.

SPECIALIZED TRAINING OR KNOWLEDGE
  • Strong quantitative knowledge and programming skills is required.
  • Hands-on experience in study design, data management, and analysis using statistical software (SAS, Stata, R, and/or SUDDAN).
  • Experience in descriptive epidemiology and surveillance research.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work well both independently and in teams.
