The Role
Moderna continues to advance its novel mRNA platform to expand the R&D pipeline and portfolio and open new therapeutic applications. Innovation of the platform and pursuit of therapies will enable Moderna to achieve its mission to deliver the greatest possible impact to people through mRNA medicines. Research and Early Development is core to Moderna\xe2\x80\x99s mission, responsible for mRNA platform research, therapeutics discovery and preclinical development, and non-clinical sciences.

The Associate Director will support the R&ED Strategic Operations team to deliver on functional goals, objectives, and strategic programs. This role will act as a critical integration point within RED with a particular focus on the therapeutic areas and preclinical portfolio. You will gain significant exposure to scientific, strategic and organizational aspects of research and Moderna, with opportunities to develop new competencies in adjacent areas. Here\xe2\x80\x99s What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Do

Partner with functional leaders and integrate with their teams to frame and execute on initiatives to build or improve scientific strategy capabilities, operating models, and business processes to achieve functional, RED objectives

Develop proactive resource allocation recommendations and act as a point of contact for high-impact decisions, resolving resourcing challenges to align with evolving portfolio priorities, including aligning and influencing efforts within RED, NCS, and CMC

Develop program-level assessments, including scientific strategy, risks, resource gaps/trade-offs, and perspective on readiness and ecosystem implications for advancement

Maintain extensive knowledge base of scientific advancements and programs across RED to rapidly provide information and project support to facilitate alignment cross-program/cross-TA decision-making, prioritization, sequencing and resolve issues.

Provide inputs into the portfolio perspective in RED operational planning/ budgeting/re-forecasting/scientific review process to enable strategic resource allocation and trade-off discussions within the RED functions

Prepare materials for board, executive, and broad cross-functional meetings, ensuring synthesis, clarity, and specificity of messaging

8+ years of experience working for a pharmaceutical/biotech company in cell and molecular biology, drug discovery, physiology and pharmacology

PhD, with an understanding of drug development and value creation in the biopharmaceutical industry, and commitment to learn about the science behind our platform technology

Experience (2+ years) as a research lead and/or project lead on a program in an early development (preclinical) setting

Ability to perform and synthesize in-depth, custom analyses, to integrate analysis and broader context into a recommendation, and to defend recommendation in a respectful, objective manner

You work independently and lead through influence to collaborate proactively with team members, colleagues, and stakeholders to get alignment and drive projects forward
