Associate Chief - Elementary Teaching, Learning, and Leadership
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION Under the general direction of the Chief Academic Officer, the Associate Chief - Elementary Teaching, Learning, and Leadership is accountable for increasing student learning outcomes, closing achievement gaps and overall performance in all populations of students within a grouping of elementary schools. The role of the Associate Chief - Elementary Teaching, Learning, and Leadership is narrowly focused to ensure that building the capacity of elementary school principals as equity driven instructional leaders is the clear and primary role of this position. This executive-level central office position is designed to be a master teacher and leader of elementary school principals, helping them increase their instructional leadership capacities as a means of improving teaching and learning in each school supervised. The Associate Chief - Elementary Teaching, Learning, and Leadership\'s main charge is to utilize best practices in developing elementary school principals as equity driven instructional leaders by working with principals both one on one and in group settings. An Associate Chief - Elementary Teaching, Learning, and Leadership will spend the majority of their time on this responsibility. This Associate Chief - Elementary Teaching, Learning, and Leadership will work closely with seven peers, to calibrate around practices, processes and procedures that will build principal capacity through providing urgency, support and differentiation. This Associate Chief - Elementary Teaching, Learning, and Leadership will also collaborate regularly with Curriculum and Instruction and Specialized Instruction Directors within the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Leadership to inform alignment of centralized supports in service of instruction. Performance in this position will be measured through growth in principal performance, teacher quality, and over time, through progress on student learning targets. EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive, yet duties will continue to focus on building the capacities of principals as paramount.

  • Work one-on-one with elementary school principals as partners to grow their instructional leadership capacity through differentiated support.
  • Develop principal professional learning networks focused on principals\' growth as instructional leaders.
  • Provide and broker professional development for principals based on individual and group learning needs.
  • Model effective practices as one means of building principal capacity.
  • Provide and broker support in helping principals connect with other Central Office departments to respond to operational needs.
  • Develop an individualized Leadership Development Plan (LDP) for each principal and conduct regular formal and informal evaluations to monitor performance against district-determined metrics, targets and goals of the LDP.
  • Ensure that principals understand their data and how to use it to improve practice, strategies and results.
  • Collaborate with other Associate Chiefs and Directors in the office of Teaching, Learning, and Leadership to share ideas and provide coherent support to principals.
  • With the Office of Teaching, Learning and Leadership Team, articulate a vision for high quality instruction and use this definition as a lens through which to gauge practice.
  • Evaluate principals in accordance with district policy and state law.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Education/Experience: Any experience equivalent to education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be: 1. Education: A Master\'s degree or other advanced degree from an accredited college or university in the area of, educational administration; curriculum and instruction; special education and or related field; AND 2. Experience: Five (5) years of education leadership experience; and managing within a complex organization is essential. Knowledge of: Operations, management and organizational design; academic standards; services for special needs students; state and federal law, regulations including Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and policies governing special education, health services, counseling and other related programs; fundamental budget principles; grants management and program evaluation; and principles of effective management, staff supervision and administration. Skill at: Demonstrating a sense of urgency and taking actions to ensure success; guiding schools to commit to higher expectations and actionable, measurable goals; demonstrating the ability to inspire and motivate others to commit their resources, talents and actions to high priority goals; demonstrating the ability to promote intelligent risk-taking; demonstrating a disposition toward supporting schools in pursuing new ideas that may not have precedent; being data-driven, and a proven track record of using data effectively to identify needs and measure results; adjusting direction and support based on performance; building collaborative relationships to ensure the entire system operates in the most effective manner possible to support school needs; being aware of the interests and motivations of others, and acts with integrity in a politically-charged environment; demonstrating an unyielding commitment to continuous improvement and an unwavering belief that key student outcomes will improve are non-negotiable; planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating program or district objectives; facilitating groups in order to complete tasks; communicating with internal and external publics; problem analysis and decision-making; data analysis; conflict resolution; personnel evaluation; and working with people, staff supervision and administration. Licenses/Certificates: A valid Nevada teaching certificate; a valid Nevada School Administrator license. Annual salary: $138,026

Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year.
