Position Summary:
Our Criminal Defense Firm is seeking a motivated and dedicated Associate Attorney to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for criminal law and a commitment to advocating for clients-engaged in the criminal justice system. As an Associate Attorney, you will handle a caseload of criminal defense matters, including both misdemeanors and felonies. You will work closely with senior attorneys, represent clients in court, and assist in all stages of criminal defense cases. Key Responsibilities:
Case Management:
Manage a caseload of criminal defense cases in all stages of criminal proceedings including arraignments, pre-trial hearings, plea negotiations, client meetings, court appearances, motions practice, trial preparation, trial, and sentencing.
Legal Research and Writing:
Conduct thorough legal research, draft legal briefs, motions, and other legal documents. Respond to discovery requests and draft motions, memorandums, and proposed orders.
Client Relations:
Maintain regular communication with clients, providing legal counsel and updates on the status of their cases. Prepare clients for court appearances.
Trial Preparation:
Assist with all aspects of trial preparation, including gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, drafting opening and closing statements, preparing exhibits, and developing trial strategies.
Collaboration:
Work closely with senior attorneys, paralegals, and investigators to ensure comprehensive representation for each client. Collaborate on case strategies and share expertise with the legal team.
Investigation Support:
Review and analyze discovery materials, including police reports, witness statements, and forensic evidence. Work with investigators to gather additional evidence and build defense strategies.
Client Advocacy:
Advocate passionately for client rights and freedoms, ensuring that each case receives the attention and resources needed for the best possible outcome.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain organized case files, track case deadlines, and ensure all documentation is complete and accurate. Effectively track time to assist in preparing billing statements for clients.
Qualifications:
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
License:
Licensed to practice law and in good standing with the Idaho State Bar.
Experience:
Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in criminal law preferred, but recent law school graduates with a strong interest in criminal defense will also be considered. Attorneys with more experience are also encouraged to apply.
Skills:
Strong understanding of criminal law and court procedures.
Excellent legal research, writing, and advocacy skills.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
Experience in plea bargaining, negotiating settlements, and preparing for trial
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
