WGME CBS13 / WPFO FOX23 in Portland, Maine is a trusted brand providing Maine viewers with local news, weather, sports, entertainment, and social media content. We help grow the most talented people in television. You have the opportunity to work with a team filled with spirit, passion, and imagination. We are currently seeking an experienced, hands-on FT Assistant News Director. We are looking for someone with strong leadership skills, investigative skills, excellent coaching skills, a passion for winning the big story and an overall winning attitude. The candidate must be able to work with a group of journalists on our day-to-day coverage for both on air and online. Expect a hands-on working environment, where you work with our producers to showcase great content and provide consistent and quality feedback.

Other Responsibilities Include:

• Assist in managing the station\'s news operations, establishing goals and directing the staff that produces 40+ hours of local news weekly
• Work closely with News Director to establish news content, philosophy, and direction
• Review daily newscasts to ensure quality control and brand compliancy, and subsequently provide feedback to all news staff
• Assist the News Director with recruiting and hiring for news personnel
• Work closely with our investigative and advocacy brands to grow and strengthen a distinct piece of our newsroom strategy
• Help increase the digital footprint of our content center
• Provide coaching to on-air talent to enhance news product
• Work closely with News Director on special projects, including debates, town halls, and roundtable discussions

Required Skills:

• Strong leadership and writing skills
• Excellent news judgment
• The ability to coach and motivate producers and reporters
• Strategic planning and time management skills are a must
• Must have a working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel, and privacy laws
• Will bring a strong fiscal experience
• Must have a proven track records of success in building a winning newscast and/or operation
• Must have a demonstrated ability to manage multiple hours of daily newscasts
• Must have a strong understanding of emerging media and experience building content across all platforms
• A bachelor\'s degree in broadcast journalism, management, or related field is preferred
• At least two years of television management experience
• A minimum five years of experience in a medium/large television market or network
