POSITION SUMMARY
The primary purpose of this position is to help deaf and hard of hearing students to ensure accessibility to education.
JOB SCOPE
The ASL assistant performs simultaneous interpretation of spoken language and sign language for deaf and hard of hearing students (spoken English into sign language and voicing sign language into English) within the classroom and during school-related functions/activities. Provide re-teaching/tutoring and other academic and classroom support as directed under the direction of the classroom teacher.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
(Minimum Qualifications)
High school diploma or GED
Experience and/or familiarity with expressive and receptive American Sign Language. A successful applicant might be an individual who used ASL in the home or who began but may not have completed a program.
Successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities, and/or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to equity and strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population
Reliable transportation
Have standards of moral character as required of all Oregon licensed educators (OAR 584-005-0005).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1-2 years experience working as an ASL Assistant in a K-12 school district.
COMPENSATION
Wage Schedule:$19.61 - $25.10 per hour
Work days: 180 (10 months)
Medical, dental and vision insurance Only eligible for benefits if candidate works 6 or more hours per day.

JCSD 509-J pays the employee's share (6%) of the Public Employees Retirement System Contribution
