Job Description




We are looking for an experienced and passionate Art Director (Director of Web Design) to oversee creative direction and conversion rate optimization for our web design department. You\xe2\x80\x99ll collaborate with a multitude of teams to bring our visions to life, synthesizing business strategies into tangible concepts that consider the varied, and occasionally complex needs of our customers.

This position primarily focuses on front end design and development of consistent, functional UX/UI elements to unify our platform and create a harmonized, efficient system of interconnected products. It requires leadership, flexibility, and communication at all phases of project development. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with extensive UX and digital product design experience who can understand our platform and our audiences inside and out. We need a motivated leader willing to offer solutions that are both practical and creative to best benefit the project.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee creative direction and maintain consistency across all deliverables for all design departments
  • Directly oversee and supervise Design Management/Leadership teams to ensure the best user experience and user interface quality possible
  • Consistently work to improve website conversion rate through optimization by retooling existing UX/UI features to improve upon them and provide consistency.
  • Act as design best practice liaison and subject matter expert providing guidance to client facing departments on best practices to improve/maintain high digital website scoring (light house, site speed, etc.)
  • Have a metrics driven approach when it comes to solutions, thinking about conversion rate, site speed, Accessibility, etc.
  • Act as a project manager for large design projects and initiatives related to product development, platform upgrades, and user experience (UX)
  • Delegate and manage tasks to ensure teams are consistently meeting project deadlines, objectives, and service level agreements (SLAs)
  • Assess new/updated guidelines from key clients to prioritize and identify potential improvements and changes to our existing templates and layouts
  • Design graphic assets, mockups, iconography, and original content for implementation across our platform and customers\xe2\x80\x99 sites
  • Utilize HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript/jQuery within our bespoke content management system to code responsive webpage layouts and new templates for clients and OEM programs that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. (Note that we do not use WordPress or PHP on our platform.)
  • Work with our Director of Operations and product teams to set creative strategy
  • Be the subject matter expert on major DealerOn systems and leverage that knowledge to find creative ways to expand our systems and products as they relate to design, interactivity and the user
  • Work with project managers in other departments to monitor project status
  • Back design decisions with data, evidence, and industry insight
  • Iterate upon designs to respond to stakeholder input, platform capabilities, product requirements, and OEM mandates
  • Assist in the development of training procedures and documentation of best practices and design/branding guidelines
Required Skills/Experience
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and XD
  • Extensive digital portfolio demonstrating strong graphic/UX/UI design skills and related work experience
  • Strong knowledge of design fundamentals and typography
  • Advanced proficiency with coding HTML and CSS by hand, employing responsive design principles.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with JavaScript and/or jQuery
  • Knowledge of best practices and the latest trends in design and front-end website development (Bootstrap or other CSS frameworks, HTML5, CSS3, responsive design principles)
  • Experience working with Content Management Systems.
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively
  • 7+ years of experience in web design, including responsive web design
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Minimum 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a supervisory role
Preferred Skills/Experience
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Fine Arts, Media Arts, Interaction Design, or equivalent education and experience
  • 7-10 years of experience serving as manager or director of UX/UI, web, or digital product design teams
  • Knowledge of object-oriented languages and libraries (jQuery, JavaScript, React, Vue JS)
  • Experience with development of organization branding, marketing campaigns, and advertising strategies
  • Automotive industry experience
