Overview

The Finance & Administration Division of the Agency of Transportation (AOT) is seeking an Audit Specialist. This position is based out of the Barre City Place office, and is eligible for telework or flexible schedules.

The Audit Specialist II position will support the AOT Audit Bureau with a variety of required tasks, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Financial reviews on indirect cost rates, perform invoice reviews
  • Assist in gathering documentation and preparation for submittal relative to the Annual Single Audit Review
  • Assist with coordinating with various sections of the Agency to obtain documentation required to support audits, organize documentation with reference numbers, ensure the auditor\'s requests are met, and prepare documents to be uploaded for submittal,
  • Assist with requesting and gathering information for Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) Audit
  • Assist with improper payment reviews by FHWA
  • Perform rate schedule reviews for pending contracts, evaluate internal controls, identify gaps, and develop corrective actions
  • Assist with subrecipient monitoring of state and federal grants, and perform subrecipient single audit reviews
Additionally, the position has full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and completing assignments in accordance with State and Federal guidelines and accepted audit practices, as well as for developing and attaining section objectives which are compatible with the policies and objectives of the Agency. By assessing risk, the incumbent determines the nature of audit assignments and where the efforts of staff must be focused. Collaboration with and requests from the Audit Chief and other managers leads to investigations of regulatory compliance in many different areas of AOT and often results in policy recommendations.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in standard office setting, though occasional travel may be required. Out of state travel may be expected.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor\'s degree in accounting, public or business administration, or a related field AND three (3) years or more of financial operations or program audit experience.

OR

Associate\'s degree in accounting, public or business administration, or a related field AND four (4) years or more of audit experience in a government environment.

OR

Five (5) years or more of financial operations or program audit experience in a government environment.

OR

Certification as a CPA.

OR

Two (2) years or more of experience as an AOT Audit Specialist I.

Preferred Qualifications

18 credit hours in accounting, auditing or taxation.
