Overview

The Animal Control Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of both animals and the community. This position involves responding to calls regarding stray, injured, or dangerous animals, enforcing local animal control laws, and providing education to the public about responsible pet ownership. The ideal candidate will possess a strong sense of leadership, excellent conflict management skills, and a passion for animal care.

Responsibilities

Respond to calls regarding stray, injured, or aggressive animals in a timely manner. Capture and transport animals safely using appropriate techniques. Investigate reports of animal cruelty or neglect and document findings accurately. Enforce local animal control ordinances and regulations. Prepare detailed reports on incidents, investigations, and animal care activities. Educate the public on responsible pet ownership and animal welfare issues. Collaborate with law enforcement agencies when necessary for criminal investigations. Maintain equipment and vehicles used in animal control operations. Provide first aid and CPR to injured animals as needed.

Experience

Candidates should have experience or training in the following areas:

Animal handling and care techniques. Law enforcement practices related to animal control. Conflict management strategies to effectively address challenging situations. Report writing skills for documenting incidents clearly and accurately. Surveillance techniques for monitoring animal behavior in various environments. Leadership experience, preferably in a military or security context. Knowledge of immigration law as it pertains to animal control issues is a plus. Familiarity with loss prevention strategies related to community safety. This position requires a dedicated individual who is committed to protecting both animals and the community while promoting humane treatment practices.
Essential Functions:

Operate a motor vehicle safely, during hours of darkness and light, sometimes in extreme weather, load and unload animals in truck, lift up to 50 pounds and rarely lift over 100 lbs., crawl under obstructions or in confined areas, ascent or descent stairs safely, sit or stand for extended periods of time, pull, push or carry animals or objects, work various shifts, subject to call out after hours in some situations, understand and follow orders, policies and procedures.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.45 - $20.29 per hour
