Lucky Dog Animal Rescue-Animal Care Technician



Lucky Dog Animal Rescue (LDAR) seeks Animal Care Technician for the new Florence, SC campus. Founded in 2009, LDAR is a volunteer-powered, foster based 501(c)(3) that has saved more than 31,500 homeless and abandoned animals since its founding.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, Animal Care Technicians (ACTs) are responsible for the daily care of all animals, including feeding, cleaning, and walking. ACTs are responsible for the proper cleaning and disinfecting of all rooms to provide a healthy environment for the animal, administer daily medications prescribed by staff veterinarians and provides animals with love, compassion, daily exercise and enrichment.

Strong communication skills are essential so management is aware of any developing issues with animals in our care.

The ideal candidate for this job is resourceful, detail oriented, organized and has animal rescue and/or veterinary work background.

This position requires a flexible, non-regular work week with the ability to work occasional weekends.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE


? Educational background--High school diploma or equivalent.
? Professional demeanor and good communication skills with the ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment.
? Experience using online databases to track medication administration.
? Effective verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills.
? Ability to create and foster a collaborative team environment.
? Excellent attention to detail and sense of urgency, ability to prioritize with an emphasis on quality and accuracy of work.
? Ability to take direction, follow instructions accurately and accept constructive criticism
? Comfortable handling a variety of sizes and temperaments for both dogs & cats

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


? Thoroughly clean and disinfect all animal holding rooms on a daily basis.
? Feeding and monitoring eating habits of all animals.
? Observe and report animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness, disease and discontent.
? Report signs of illness, disease, injury or unusual activity to team leads and veterinarians.

? Bring animals to onsite vet clinic for treatment and surgeries.
? Provide exercise and enrichment for all animals.
? Properly stock and organize all animal holding rooms and volunteer work rooms.
? Make sure cages and animals are properly numbered and identified throughout the shelter.
? Wash and dry towels and blankets.
? Wash and sterilize water and food bowls.
? Ensure shelter grounds are constantly clean, picking up any trash and stool material.
? Correctly administer prescribed medications and treatments to all animals and document accordingly in shelter software.

Key Experience


LDAR is looking to hire an Animal Care Technician who has the following experience and skills, at a minimum:

? Animal Rescue experience (volunteer or staff) preferred
? Veterinary technician experience, Veterinary assistance experience, or knowledge and understanding of animal rescue/shelter medicine preferred
? Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and some holidays
? Ability to work in cohesion with a primarily volunteer-powered organization
? This position requires walking, bending and lifting.
? Reliable transportation required.

Responsibilities may be added or changed as the organization continues to grow.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $12.00 - $13.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
