Department Information

The Colorado Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) has four major operational divisions: Army National Guard, Air National Guard, Civil Air Patrol, and Veterans Affairs. These divisions utilize State and Federal resources to provide our communities, State, and Nation with a ready military force for national defense and state emergency response as well as providing assistance to our Colorado Veterans.

Description of Job

This position is part of our Air National Guard division and performs the following duties:

  • Control entry to and egress from the location via designated entry/exit points.
  • Monitor alarm equipment and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) when applicable and initiate appropriate response forces.
  • Patrol/protect location perimeters and equipment storage areas to detect or deter unauthorized entry.
  • Provide administrative support to unit Security Force Operations.
  • Conduct entry control functions.
  • Perform physical security functions such as mobile and foot patrols of buildings and controlled areas.
  • Document discrepancies and conduct preliminary investigations of discrepancies.
  • Enforce all applicable state, federal, and military statutes on the installation.
  • Conduct traffic control and enforcement.
  • Apprehend/detain suspects.
  • Conduct vehicle searches/inspections on installation for inbound and outbound traffic.
  • Complete all required initial and recurring proficiency training requirements to include physical fitness and weapons qualifications.
  • Provide other service necessary to secure location resources and personnel as approved by the Installation Defense Council (IDC).
  • Complete all annual training and fitness requirements.
  • Other duties as required by the nature of the location of this position.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

This position is an armed position. The following requirements apply:
  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • Two years in security or law enforcement, one year of which MUST have been armed (emphasize your armed experience on your application form).
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
  • Requires a favorable background/suitability investigation. Cannot have a felony conviction or a conviction governed by the Lautenberg Act.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a secret security clearance.
  • Must not be prohibited from carrying a weapon.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver\'s license and be able to obtain and maintain a military driver\'s license to operate assigned military security vehicles.
  • May be required to pass a physical or provide proof of physical fitness to include a medical screening.
  • No illegal drug use and may be required to submit to random drug testing.
  • Provide a passing Physical Assessment score within 30 days of employment and at least annually thereafter.
  • Must weapon-certify annually for entry control and patrol duties.
Substitutions:

Post certification can substitute for one year of the general security or law enforcement experience, but not for the one year of armed service experience. This is not a POST certified position.

Supplemental Information

Inability to obtain or retain a favorable background/suitability investigation, the loss of a security clearance, the loss of a valid Colorado Driver\'s license, test positive for controlled/illegal substances or alcohol, the loss of authority to carry a weapon, refusal to attend mandatory training, and/or inability to pass the annual physical fitness and weapons certification are grounds for immediate dismissal.
