Date Range: January 27 - September 25, 2023
Schedule: 28-32 hours a week; Friday - Monday, 9am-5pm
Location: New York Aquarium

The Opportunity
The New York Aquarium Education Department is seeking an enthusiastic, creative and committed individual to hire as an Adjunct Conservation Educator to lead educational programs including birthday parties, summer camp, and school and family programs. Our Educators play a key role in the WCS mission by developing programs that engage audiences of all ages from across the city and bringing marine biology and environmental education directly to communities where people live and learn. Together with staff, you will teach exciting science content, welcome campers with diverse interests, abilities, and backgrounds, and maintain a lively learning environment.

\xe2\x97\x8f You can thrive in a busy, fast-paced environment and be adept at juggling many projects at once by utilizing your strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities
As an Adjunct Conservation Educator (ACE), you will:
\xe2\x97\x8f Work on-site at the New York Aquarium. This is not a remote work opportunity.
\xe2\x97\x8f Foster an inclusive learning environment for all visitors
\xe2\x97\x8f Train on handling protocols of marine invertebrates for use in programs
\xe2\x97\x8f Communicate with birthday party families through email and phone calls
\xe2\x97\x8f Lead birthday parties that are fun and engaging while also having educational value
\xe2\x97\x8f Supervise and interact with children ranging in age from 3-17 years-old
\xe2\x97\x8f Assist Education staff with onsite programming including field trips and family programs
\xe2\x97\x8f Maintain a fun and lively learning environment
\xe2\x97\x8f Prepare and organize materials for programs as necessary
\xe2\x97\x8f Inspire learners from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds with a love of wildlife and science
\xe2\x97\x8f Assist with summer camp programming including after camp care
\xe2\x97\x8f Participate in training before the start of camp and throughout the summer
\xe2\x97\x8f Learn and utilize restorative justice practices to create a supportive camp environment and cohesive camp community
\xe2\x97\x8f Attend regular meetings
\xe2\x97\x8f Additional responsibilities as required

Qualification Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
\xe2\x97\x8f One year prior experience working with children and/or students.
\xe2\x97\x8f Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
\xe2\x97\x8f Ability to work within a highly team-oriented environment, as well as independently.
\xe2\x97\x8f Excellent verbal communication skills to help interpret science concepts in both a classroom setting and at aquarium exhibits.
\xe2\x97\x8f Reliable, flexible, and accountable.
\xe2\x97\x8f Must be available to work Friday-Monday until the position end date.
\xe2\x97\x8f Must be comfortable working outdoors in summer temperatures and all weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications
\xe2\x97\x8f Bachelor\'s degree in science or education
\xe2\x97\x8f One year teaching experience at an informal science institution, including a camp program
\xe2\x97\x8f Bilingual/Spanish speaker a plus
