POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position: Activity Aide

Reports To: Activities Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Activity Aide assists in the planning, organizing, and leading of activity programs for residents. Recreation may include sports, dramatics, nature study, social recreation, games, and arts and crafts based upon residents\' needs. The Activity Aide prepares reports on the residents\' progress as required.

An activities aide is responsible for helping with physical, educational, or social activities in a variety of settings. As an activities aide, your duties revolve around assisting residents with use of equipment, and monitoring their participation in various activities. Depending on the type of organization, your responsibilities may include events and coordination with outside activity providers and facilitators to ensure they are safe and healthy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Assists in planning recreation activities based on the needs and interests of the resident.

  • Encourages social communication through group recreation.
  • Provides programs of sensory training, reality orientation, re-motivation, and resocialization on an individual and group basis.
  • Assists residents with participation in religious programs.
  • Assists residents with leisure recreation.
  • Visits resident and non-participants and provides appropriate recreation services.
  • Documents resident attendance and participation level at recreation programs. May assist with writing progress notes, if applicable.
  • Maintains recreation department supplies at appropriate inventory levels and stores supplies in an organized manner.
  • Assists with volunteer program and volunteer appreciation events.
  • Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals\' needs and rights.
OTHER DUTIES: * Interacts with residents, families, visitors, facility.
  • May be required to work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, additional hours, and in different positions as the facility\'s needs require.
  • Must practice good personal hygiene and follow the dress code requirements.
  • Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test as required.
QUALIFICATIONS: * High school degree or equivalent.
  • Must have verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have well-developed organizational abilities.
  • Must have some arts and craft ability and knowledge.
  • Must be able to perform record keeping and documentation as necessary.
  • Must possess the ability to positively interact with staff, residents, family members, visitors, and the public.
  • TB test clearance
  • CPR and First Aid certification a plus
  • Prior experience with patients a plus
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
MENTAL INVOLVEMENT:

The ability to utilize language skills to comprehend spoken and written words effectively. Adaptable to multiple and changing priorities. Able to maintain composure and to use good judgment when dealing with residents, and staff. Ability to function independently.
